[ZDnet] Windows Phone is great, so why aren't more people buying them? - Page 7

I never even heard of windows phone until I actually read about it a couple months ago in some websites. I was like, ohhh, that looks cool.

Reason for me to switch from IOS to Windows phone

-As a former ipod touch 3G user for around 3 years(yes, I have had my ipod touch for 3 or 4 years), I was getting EXTREMELY sick of the UI and I needed something fresh and different.

-Also, the battery in my ipod was so degraded it won't even last for around 1 hours or 2 without the battery warming showing up; although it wasn't great in the first place lol. So I needed a new device anyways.

I climbed off the IOS bandwagon, ignored the andriod wagon, and took a chance at windows phone's wagon.

The results?

Sure there are some flaws in the windows phone OS like no lock rotation (I hate landscape on ANYTHING lol), and the battery life is a flop compared to other phones(My lumia 710 lasts appx 15 hours though...), my overall experience with it was very good. The apps on WP's isn't exactly on par with IOS's, meaning lesser quality and less availability(looking over to games corner..), I don't play mobile games anymore so it doesn't affect me. I am sure it will effect other's though.

I like how facebook chat is integrated right into the messaging system. Now if they would add in steam chat and I'll be happy. I have nothing else to talk bad about WP's and my lumia 710.

My 2 cents and gg

The problem is advertisment. I'm yet to see a Windows 7 phone advertisment other then the internet. Most of the sales are by 'word of mouth'. People seem to forget where most people get their information from. The internet? Not at all.

Malls, friends, billboards, and news/cartoons is where most people would see the advertisements.

if the app store was more mature and there were apps that met my productivity needs I would easily be using a lumia 900 as my primary phone right now. I have a Samsung Focus S and a Motorola Atrix (as my primary) right now.

but I cant use WP7 as my primary device as I have productivity apps that I rely on that are not available on windows phone or they are not as functional.

so for now I will stay with my atrix.

it sux because I prefer WP7.

There isn't enough 3rd party support for me yet. I'll stick with Android until WP7 develops a strong library of apps. I really want to get a WP7 device with Zune and Xbox LIVE integrated in and all, but the support is one thing I just can't leave yet.
Retribution.

I know a dozen people who are moving to Verizon the moment they offer a Win phone. Contract or not... (me included).

ATT has LTE....

Do you travel the Country, or just watch their commercials?

I hardly see how this matters to the end-user anyway, if they're enjoying it.

You're making the same mistake Microsoft did. CSS3 and HTML5 is nice and everything, but they make up like 0.001% of the web, since they are just addons to the existing standards that Microsoft has spent the last decade and a half completely ignoring.

It doesn't matter what version of Trident its using, because its using Trident. If I code a basic layout using CSS that works nearly the same on every other browser I can be 100% sure that it will fail miserably in every version of IE, including IE9, unless I pretty much recode every single element to work in IE.

I don't see there being a problem at all. Sales are doing quite well and customers reviews couldn't be better. What it faces now is being new to the market; it'll take time for people buy into it the Windows Phone idea. It's a bargain of a phone, the OS is excellent, and I'll be buying it once we are due for an upgrade in June.

No, the problem is reps, have you not read any horror stories from carriers other than AT&T and how they threat Windows Phone?

- You want to buy a Windows Phone? It's slow, buggy and bad, go with Android instead

- Hi I want to buy a Windows Phone
*Rep walks off with a face full of disgust*

So I was in the Sprint store looking at a number of phones, the HTC Arrive being one of them. One of the employees wrinkled his nose and said "You want a windows phone? Are you sure? We have android phones on that other wall."

etc. etc.

Reps are EXTREMELY biased and are afraid of Windows Phone.

Now imagine this happening to a casual Joe and you will see what's the issue, this is why ATT got exclusivity as well (no to mention $ deal), at least there are not as many such reps as in other carriers.
