So I was in the Sprint store looking at a number of phones, the HTC Arrive being one of them. One of the employees wrinkled his nose and said "You want a windows phone? Are you sure? We have android phones on that other wall."
etc. etc.
Reps are EXTREMELY biased and are afraid of Windows Phone.
Now imagine this happening to a casual Joe and you will see what's the issue, this is why ATT got exclusivity as well (no to mention $ deal), at least there are not as many such reps as in other carriers.

While this was true in the past, MS and Nokia gave just about every store a Lumia 900 to play with. Every rep in the 4-5 stores I visited lauded the phone. So while I think you are right before the Lumia 900 now more reps like the platform. I hope to see some shift in momentum for Windows Phone 7.

Microsoft has a long way to go before I believe they're a viable platform worth investing time and money into.

The only software I use is Windows 7, and though I do enjoy it, it's really because I have no other option as a builder and a gamer. Every single other thing they've made I just didn't enjoy.

One factor may be that the app marketplace for Windows Phone isn't that big yet compared to android and app-store.

I wonder if M$ has learned yet that marketing a phone with 'Windows' in it just dosent ring a bell with the average consumer.

When they think 'Windows' they think of a computer, they dont want something like a computer; they want whats standardized as a phone these days. Namely a fruit and a robot

Mass popularity is harsh sometimes.....

Zune failed, it wasn't Windows
KIN failed, it wasn't Windows
MSN Direct Smart Watch
Windows Live OneCare
Soapbox
Microsoft Wireless Base Station
Microsoft Encarta

etc. etc.

Just because Xbox succeeded without using word Windows, doesn't mean your statement is true.

True but it's for ATT only, other carrier reps are very biased

It's actually odd to hear that US Carrier reps are having a hard time selling the phone. I went to the mall yesterday and visited the big 3 Canadian carriers, Rogers, Bell, and Telus and all of them loved the Windows Phone 7. For the record only Rogers has the Lumia 900 so Bell and Telus are still selling the "older" Windows Phones which are still being sold as equals to iPhone, Android, and BB in different areas.

A quick summary of all 4 platforms and how they're advertised in Ontario bu the big 3.

iPhone:
- General use
- First Smart Phone
- For anyone who already has, or has used an iPod and has iTunes already

Android:
- The tech savvy
- Something different from the iPhone
- Bigger selection of hardware
- Customization
- Business use (except MS Office)

Blackberry:
- BBM
- If your company wants you to get one
- Travelling overseas

Windows Phone:
- General use all the way to heavy business use
- MS Office
- Multiple Exchange accounts
- Deep OS integration with social networking (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn)
- Xbox live
- Xbox remote

Here's an article on the verge today regarding why carriers don't like window phones:

There is also Documents To Go, which supports .doc/x. And what exactly do you control on your Xbox with WP7? Menu selections and movie playback?

You can do the same with Office web app live... It's called coauthoring. Besides, Office web app is superior over all thanks to Excel, deeper Word processing capabilities, and look & feel(If you're used to using the desktop packages, the web app will be a lot more familiar and easier to use)

Anyway, Office still more powerful and popular as a desktop application.

I have searched many times for this, and was never able to find anything, even less straight from MS. Thanks! I don't deny it, Docs is a nightmare sometimes when adding images and charts into docs/spreadsheets.

I've had my Windows Phone for about a year, and admittedly, the apps are lame.
However, all the apps I really use have been included with the OS.
