Closed loop water cooling kits any good?

Thread Starter
I have seen a number of systems in the Rate my Cables thread using small, closed loop water cooling kits. I really like the clean look of these kits over a large heatsink/fan combo, but I wanted to know if they were up to the par with the air cooling systems. Here were a couple of systems I was looking at:

Corsair H60 Hydro Water Cooler CWCH60

Antec KUHLER H2O 620 Water Cooling System

Liquid coolers > air cooling anyday !!!!

I use the Corsair H60 liquid cooling unit on an AMD Phenon II x4 980 BE oc'd to 4.1ghz 24/7 and even under load (BF3 maxed settings & full 64 player server) never tops 52c. The unit can get heat saturated, so make sure you use a cooling fan with a higher cfm/static pressure rating than the provided Corsair fan if you plan on doing CPU intensive things, or throw a second fan on the other side of the rad for a push/pull config. From what I've read the Corsair pump/cooling plate is much easier to seat & attach than the Antec, but since I have no experience with the Antec cooler, I cant really accurately comment.

Final thought - I will NEVER air cool a CPU in my own system again after using a liquid cooling unit.....

The daily does of inaccurate information... Perpetuating false or misleading CLC information is a disservice to forum members. rolleyes.gif

OP-

Read the link below and then make an informed decision.

Aside from a few hate posts the thread covers all the Pros and Cons of Closed Loop Coolers vs. air coolers.

As always I recommend that people Buy What Makes Them Happy as long as they know the technical facts on CLCs.

while they may be up to par with lower end units, they are really sub par to others around the price range. While there isn't a problem with using them, it is a poor representation of what real Custom Water loops can achieve. You will get better performance out of a solid air unit than one of the Closed loop kits.

To put it in perspective the H100 can be beaten by a NH-D14 pretty easily while being quieter. so its just up to you. If you feel like you are cramped for space, or just like the look it will do fine although mostly not recommended for higher oc's as top air units are better.
Small wonder.

They're sub to the air cooling of same price performance-wise.
But they're also smaller/versatile.

for real performance go with a full blown water system...the rasa kits are reasonably priced and offer outstanding cooling thumb.gif
