Overclockig i3-2100

Thread Starter
Hey people, so i managed to get my i3 2100 to 3194MHz, overclocking higher i get error saying overclocking failed.

I have heard people getting extra 200-400MHz with same processor, did i hit the wall or i need to change settings in my MB? i am new to overclocking CPU!

all i did was change AI overclock tuner BLCK from 100.0 to 103.0 going higher i get error and pc restarts twice.

You're not overclocking your CPU. You're overclocking your motherboards FSB. The reason why you get an error is probably due to either the motherboard cant handle it, or your beginning to cause data failure since FSB effects PCI lines, memory, and SATA lines. Your probably not booting because your overclocking your memory and you don't know it...

FSB isn't a good thing to overclock. The performance increase you'll see with the 200-300MHz overclock won't compare to when your OS becomes corrupt from dataloss and/or your motherboard fries.

Just leave the FSB/BLCK whatever, alone. The i3-2100 isn't meant to be overclocked. I had one for a few months before I got my i5-2500k. The i3 is a good chip but just won't give you a ton of gaming performance.

I did like the 42C max load temp on air with the i3-2100 though.....

103 mhz FSB isnt too crazy, it's likely those settings are perfectly fine. The biggest risk overclocking the FSB is probably corrupted data. As long as your are willing to risk the data on your HDD, test it out. If 103mhz is too high, you should see a lot of file errors and eventually your OS will become unusable and you will have to re-install.

I can't imagine there is much perfomance difference between 3.1ghz and 3.2ghz, so if you choose to revert back to 100mhz FSB its not a big loss either. Decide what level of risk you are willing to accept. smile.gif

Thx for reply! i already did revert it back to stock settings cant risk this cpu yet even if its not a 2500k redface.gif. Some time later when performance is missing il overclock the cpu and gpu when needed smile.gif
