I think people just expected and wanted to hit 5.0 ghz since it's such a nice and even number

I guess everyone is going to have to round down then! 4.0 is the new 5.0.

I'm kind of like that, I want a nice clean clock for some reason.
For example, my base clock is actually 100.2 because for some reason my board droops it a tiny bit so it's my solution for a perfect 100 reading in CPU-Z.

Well still, I keep my point. I have faith enough in Intel that they won't release IB-cores with OC-temperatures running too high.
So you think that Intel will delay Ivy because it doesn't overclock to 5GHz easily? This is funniest thread in years, so much disinformation lachen.giflachen.giflachen.gif

Ivy is going to be released sooner than originally planned, not later.

Intel is business, they exist to produce profit for their employees and investors. They aren't going to toss millions of CPUs because a tiny fraction of a mostly irrelevant market are *****ing about CPUs that "only" run 30% faster than what they are rated for on air cooling.

According to your logic, we should still be focusing on single core processors like the Pentium 4, and achieving 10+ GHz by now. 4.8GHz on ivy is not 4.8GHz on sandy. No matter how you look at it, Ivy is a step up. Max GHz means nothing, if anything Ivy bridge is a little more challenging to overclock than Ivy.. and many complained sandy took the fun of overclocking away. I'm not buying an inferior processor just beacuse it overclocks 200-400Mhz higher
For people that don't have sandy, Ivy bridge is the processor to get. Someone buying sandy over ivy just because they *may* get 5GHz is stubborn. Ivy bridge will get 4.6->4.8GHz with lower voltage, better power consumption, and still match or beat it in benchmarks. I overclock for max performance. I don't base my purchase on "this processor overclocks 1.5GHz over stock, but this one overclocks 1.3GHz over stock". I go with what will offer the best performance after being overclocked, and currently that is Ivy Bridge.

You may be happy with the small increase in performance but i am not. Why didn't you upgrade to SB if you are one of those people that look for MAX performance? Also When i say 5GHz+ i say it purely in performance gain and not as a OC potential. Its not like IVY is a destroying SB clock per clock. Looks at Q6600 and Q9550. Fist gen Core i7 vs 980x. They all overclocked better. Being 22nm we would wanted to hit at least SB clocks easily since in reality Intel did not do any major change in architecture. I think you should skip IVY too and wait for 1150.

I've been kinda skeptical from all the temperature complaints of IB. But ya, I'm upgrading from C2D e8200 lol.

If I can get anything higher than 4GHz on my 3770k I'll be happy.

now we have IB and from the looks of it any IB chip will do 4.5 no sweat whatsoever (4.5+6%=4.77),will OC 6.0+(any will=> unlike SB),higher RAM frequency,PCI-E 3.0,etc
bottom line is if you into overclocking/benching this is the chip to get ..if you worry about the temps there is already offering from Intel called SB

I'm not sure what your point is, but most SB chips will do 4.5+ no sweat as well. PCI-E 3.0 won't be utilized for some time, so that's also not really a concern for most right now. RAM frequency might be nice, but is it worth the $250+ upgrade from SB? I don't see Ivy as the average (read: not subzero) overclocker's upgrade from SB.

When you say "will OC to 6.0," I haven't seen any of them do this on air or water, or for an extended period of time. If you have a link, I'd like to see it.

Just responding to the bold part(I agree with the rest of it):

Single-GPU (i.e most users) won't see much from pcie 3.0, but multi-gpu definately see an increase in performance when pcie 2.0 and pcie 3.0 are compared smile.gif.

Difference is up to almost 40% in some games. The moar gpus, the greater the increase of performance. That being said, if I wanted 3-4 gpus (i.e could afford) I would go with 2011, not 1155.

True, however you'd need cards that are compliant with 3.0 to take advantage of the benefits.
