Macbook air 11" vs. ultrabook

Hi, I am thinking about getting a smaller laptop for school this fall as I am transferring. I've been looking at macbook air 11" and it looks sexy. How about the ultrabook? i prefer smaller platform, I have a 17" clevo w870cu with 6970m right now and I don't feel like bringing a 9 lb. laptop to school. any ideas? I think their price range is about the same.

my personal preference would dictate going with an ultrabook over the macbook air any day.

I bought my gf a macbook air about a month ago and can say I have nothing bad to say about it. Its not going to be doing any mobile gaming, but for everything else it works wonderfully. I am also a big fan of the build quality it offers, especially compared to other ultrabooks I have played around with.

If you don't need one until this fall, then wait for the new hardware to come out.. even Apple is supposed to be upgrading their MBP (possibly airs too?) this spring/early summer.

But the real question is.. how will you game on integrated graphics? XD

Might be a second suggestion to try. But you currently have a gaming laptop so you can take this suggestion with a grain of salt.

It comes down to which OS you want to use. You can at least get a 13.3in ultrabook for the same price (even cheaper) and still weigh lighter.

Do you like a restricted OS that just...works? Or do you want a non-restricted OS that ...well...works better?

EDIT: Noticed you said 11". 13.3" is a must simply because of the size of the keyboard imo.

I have a separate gaming laptop but it's a 17" and it's too heavy to carry it around the campus.

Well, I had a macbook 13 inch that i bought in 2006. I loved it, it sitll works but I gave it to my brother. That sager looks like a nice deal, but I was looking at macbook air and ultrabooks because of the thin form factor. I saw a toshiba portege, 13" and it looks decent. amazon has it priced pretty decent too.

Yeah I am actually waiting, I am just asking for opinions on here to see what people recommend base on experience.

I also want a lighter laptop, but i think i'll go for the MacBooks.

according to rumors, Apple will bring the MB Air and MB Pro series together, keeping the slim design of the Airs and the power of the Pros
(of course, the 17" might not be as thin as the 11", but you get the point)

this all depends on the (again, rumours...) Retina displays, the (rumored) heat and power consumption problems Intel has with IB and the low availability of the new GT6XXM by Nvidia
so we'll see...

Edit:
long story short:
insane perfs and insane prices, or slighly better perfs and slightly lower prices...
I'm not bashing Apple, same thing will happen to the other manufacturers
