They're holding it back from catching on with users who would actually use the iPad for things other than downloading apps they'll only use once, and sending tweets...

The entire OS is basically nothing more than a launcher for apps. The iOS ecosystem seems purposely designed as a portal to Apple's bank account for users to shovel money into. I have a 4S and the lack of an SD card slot, no BT file transfer and no removable battery is ridiculously annoying. If this thing weren't a free gift I would definitely have a high end Samsung phone running ICS.

This trojan, like all the rest, requires the user to manually install it. There is nothing Apple or Microsoft can do to fix stupid. Anytime you give a file administrative access, bad things can happen if you are not sure where said file came from. This is true on any OS.

The only reason Apple is seeing slightly more malware now is because more and more idiots are using Apple products (most of whom learned their bad habits from Windows).

lack of USB port has kept me from buying an IPAD... looking to this generation of android or windows 8 tablets to give me that.. I would have blindly bought an IPAD 2 if it had a USB port.

The problem is its holding them back from technically apt customers. And I think this is where apple has a serious fault. Ipad is already down to 56% market share.. and if the windows 8 tablets are what they're hyped up to be apple is going to be in serious trouble by the time IPAD 4 (or whatever they are going to call it) comes out.

The iPad was designed to be a multimedia device which handles day-to-day routines. It does this very well and more. This means their target base leans more towards the casual users looking for stability and uniformity, even if sometimes it comes at the price of UI personalization. It is very difficult to cater to a specific minority while maintaining happiness with the great majority.

Windows users do become conditioned to click OK and Next without properly looking after a while.

I hate to point this out for, whatever group of people you fit into, Oracle fixed this exploit over 3 months ago in Java.  This Microsoft Office vulnerability was patched years ago for Win users.

Also note, that Java maintenance is Apple's responsibility for the OS X platform.  It always has been.  It is also likely that all software patching of Office is also handle through Apple.

No system is ever safe or more secure if it has users.

I do find it funny, however, that PC fanboys get such pleasure at any news that places Apple in a bad light. Point is that PC's have good points like gaming. Apple, on the other hand, excels at everything else.

Then you obviously don't know how to use your 980x system if you are using it for gaming or that you think any particular system that comes from a store can match or rival anything you can build / program yourself (ala install Linux).  It amazes me that people see Mac's as something other than Personal Computers, they are personal computers like anything else you would by from Dell or HP.  The only difference is the flavor of software, and when it comes to "flavor" its user's experience / personal tastes.  Sour candy is the best for me, but someone else it is chocolate.  Both are still candy, and equally make my bottom round.  Just like a Windows or Mac PC.  You can just enjoy Win PC in its complete customizability, Linux for its raw performance, integrity or security, and Mac OSX for its pretty security and closedness.

Again this is due to third-party software and not entirely Apple's fault. If you stick something that Microsoft has developed onto anything, it will get viruses! rolleyes.gif
