If you are going to overclock on Sandy/Ivy you need a 2500/2600/2700k. The board doesn't really help you out if you aren't going to push it.

That being said, you could go with a lower end board with decent overclocking potential to be able to afford an unlocked processor, or you could stick a low-end chip in the high end board and have near the same performance you would with a low end board with the same chip.

The Gene-Z is a great board but you should make sure you can actually utilize it! Save up for a 2500k, or 3570k, which is just weeks away (gives you time to save rolleyes.gif)

well iv already bought the board, and its being shipped right now tongue.gif my gf is paying for the processor hahah. (as mentioned on the first page) i really do want to push the chip i get. might get that 3570k, but im not sure how far i can push it with an H60 in push/pull.

and theres many features i love about this board, not just the overclocking. i'm an audio freak. ( 2 guitars, listen to heavy metal, etc) and the mini PCIe, the intel LAN, and more. i just want a board thats good all around.

If the SupremeFX lll sound is at all like the previous Maximus boards fx it is just a re-labled Realtech. If you are really into audio a dedicated sound card like the creative Titanium Hd, or Asus Essence STX is the way to go.

i think the sound on this is a rebrand from creative. but im not sure. this board has no expansion available for audio.. i heard from many reviews that the audio on this board is excellent.

Nope Creative has nothing to do with the chip. It has nothing to do with X-Fi. Plus Asus makes their own sound cards. I don' see why they would use a competitors sound chip over theirs.

Edit: You could certainly fit a sound card in the bottom X4 slot.

Edit: Did a little research. It does use Creative Software(ie. Creative EAX 5.0 HD, Creative ALchemy and THX® TruStudio™ PRO) But the future boards are going to use Asus Xonar sound cards.

powered by creative sound.

only difference is that is soldered to the board on the gene V

yeah, but still, its got the best onboard sound im gonna find. plus if i ever go SLI i'd have to take out the sound card if i bought one. creative usually has pretty good sound.

right now i have a Xonar DG 5.1. and its pretty good. but i dont think its going to be soooon that their going to include the Xonar sound on the boards? or are they lol

Sorta yes. That was from the MAXIMUS II/III. It is the original version that was not onboard. Then the Maximus IV uses SupremeFX X-Fi 2 which was onboard and I suppose that the SupremeFX 3 is the next gen of the previous. I do remember reading a few post about the SupremeFX 2 on the Maximus IV being a rebranded Realtech chip. tongue.gif
