this looks like it has lots of potential! good luck!

re: the lamptron FC10. SO pumped to see a mod that can use it. it fits suspiciously well with your plan.

Hehe. Normally I measure twice and cut once, but not with this build. I need battle damage to really make this mod look right. I love how black anodized aluminum scars! It leaves these shiny metal scars that just make me happy. It reminds me of The Terminator movies when the terminator gets dinged up.

So I got a few more parts today!
450

First thing I need to do is mount the replacement power button and audio jacks
450

After a lot of grinding and filing I got them in. I used a dremel tool to start the audio jack ports then hand filed it to perfection. I made a few more "mistakes" with the dremel for some more battle damage!
450

More to come once more parts come in.

So the stock top fan grill is totally not looking like 70-80s era Russian tech. It needs to go.

The hole is prepped for surgery.
450

This fan grill looks suitable. Although I might go with a hex pattern mesh in the end. I happened to have this speaker mesh laying around.
700

The nibbler is hungry!
450

The grate is down.
450

I'm going to hand file it the rest of the way. Those old fan slots make for an easy way to tell how far to file it down.
450

There's a clean cut hole.
450

A little U channel molding and speaker mesh and now this is looking much better.
450

Everything is just resting in place or held in with tape for now. Once I do the final construction I plan to use gorilla glue to hold the U channel molding in place. I might have to solder the mesh in place though. I've never heard of anyone doing that before. The original grates added a lot to the structure, so I might need to make things a little tougher then normal up top. Especially since the recessed handle will remove even more of the top panel.

I also went ahead and ordered the ASRock Z77E-ITX motherboard. It's the first one that I've seen available, but it also was my first choice from the four announced z77 ITX boards. I was going to wait to see the EVGA board, but I ran out of patience. =( I want to start on the PSU sleeving! Just a side note, I bought this motherboard over the others because of its colors. That's the first time I've ever done that, so I hope it doesn't suck! Also with no CPU or RAM I wont be able to test this motherboard to see if it's DOA. I don't feel like ripping apart my other system for test parts either.

Looking good bro, and most AsRock Boards are pretty decent so you shouldn't worry (although i heard their RMA process is a nightmare)

New Parts In! Those MNPC Tech recessed handles are AWESOME! Super heavy duty. They weigh like a pound or two. I'm only using one, but it's going to really make this mod legit.
450

I'm pleasantly surprised with the USB bayonet style. They remind me of the fallout universe. So heavy! Also the bakelite knob + rotary switch feels awesome.
450

Time to start working on the keypad.
450

I need to get the key count down to 12, so I'll be removing some switches from the PCB.
450

That's better.
450

Now it's time to start marking the cuts I need to make. This is the current idea. I need to sleep on it. With this many mods, there is always a chance of problems developing. I don't want to have to get another case...
450

Also, I signed up for QuakeCon!!!

Looks awesome. Now if you could just find 1 of those nuclear missile arming keys to add in somewhere... biggrin.gif

May I ask what you're gonna do with the MX Blues keypad?
