If you use its compressed lossless feature, you're not going to get anywhere near acceptable framerate at high resolutions which makes it useless. tongue.gif I made this guide so people (especially at higher resolution) can record their gameplay without taking a framerate hit, and still being able to put out top quality gaming. =D

I never said the FPS was acceptable now did I? I was merely challenging the assertions in this thread about Quality and Codecs.

Well you're comparing actual performance to theoretical performance which can't actually be hit. With the framerate you'll get doing lossless at 2560x1600 you may as well just run around spamming the screenshot button. Haha. With this method, yes, you can turn it into lossless capture as well. But it's not beneficial. This is one of the advantages that makes it better than Fraps.
MSI AB > Fraps

I don't need anything else. AB only causes a 5%-10% performance hit on my machine at 1080p 30fps uncompressed. Which is nothing since I'm usually well over 100 fps anyway.

This software may or may not be better. But I already have MSI AB for overclocking my GPU. So I definitely don't see a reason to add something else when what I already have works just fine and does much more.

Also to the people saying that Fraps uses its own codec that Vegas doesn't understand they're clearly wrong. I use Vegas+Fraps all the time with 0 issues. It's operator error.

Not quite sure what you're getting at from just 3 sentences i wrote. DXTory can also be configured for RGB capture (pointless to do so imo), with or without compression - again this is Dxtory's benefit as it's highly configurable, way more than crappy Fraps. Yet it still does not have the performance impact Fraps does. I guess you haven't used Dxtory.

And no, the Vegas thing isn't an operator error. You're making quite alot of blind assumptions here. Fraps hasn't seen an update in 6 months either, so as far as i'm concerned, it's obsolete and dead software. So the likelihood of the performance and Vegas problems being fixed is, well, unlikely.

Sorry, but Fraps is garbage. The only possible good thing about Fraps is that it doesn't hog so much HDD space. Kudos to the OP for making this guide, though.

Definitely. But Dxtory > AB tongue.gif

First off only the facepalm was directed towards you.
Second, I HAVE used DXtory quite extensively.
Third, none of what I've said are blind assumptions
Fourth, I've never had an issue with Fraps' audio in Vegas.

Then you'd know it was capable of RGB capture then, and wouldn't say that it isn't.

So everyone who's ever suffered the fraps/vegas audio problem is at fault and not fraps itself? sounds like you're just assuming everyone else is at fault and not fraps.

Well let's see. If copies of Fraps are the same (assuming we're on the same patch) then it appears it WOULD be operator error.
And at the Lucky part. If you were like me then you wouldn't have that avatar..ever.

It's probably a difference of codecs...

I have also used Vegas with Fraps videos without issue. However Vegas wouldn't work with MJPG for me.

Well according to Ghooble's logic - the almighty perfect being that he is - that MJPG issue is entirely your fault, you bad, bad person. biggrin.gif

The Fraps/Vegas issue may be codec related, but even with a codec pack like K-Lite doesn't solve it. Maybe Vegas is the real issue here - but all i know is, using an alternative program like Dxtory works fine.
