Not true. You can get a socket 2011 SB chip, and have pci-e 3.0., more lanes, and get an ivy-e in the future.

well theres your answer, sandy bridge cpus dont have support for pcie 3.0, only ivy bridge cpus will support PCIe 3.0 (not including x79 chips as you only mentioned z77) smile.gif

Not true. You can't use a SB-E on a z77 and that is what he is asking about, not LGA 2011/X79. Sorry OP you need Ivy for a Z77 or Z68 compatible board to use PCI E 3.0.

no, PCI3 requires a processor with PCI3 compatibility. You'll need the new line of ivy bridge for that. Fortunately, PCI3 isn't much of a boost over PCI2:thumb:
