Hey guys, installed ubuntu yesterday so you have no idea how small my knowledge of this stuff is...treat me like a litle child.

I tried to install amarok 1.4.3 and got the following error:

niranjan@niranjan-desktop:~/amarok-1.4.3$ ./configure
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking for -p flag to install... yes

checking for gawk... no
checking for mawk... mawk
checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... no
checking for kde-config... /usr/bin/kde-config

checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details.

Any ieas how to fix it? Layman's language thx.

This is kinda a guess, but perhaps your C compiler is borked? Try the ubuntu repositories for a new/updated version of your C compiler.

Also, although it doesn't say anything directly about it, it looks like it *could* be a permissions thing. I'd check to make sure the directory you're trying to compile in is open to writing and executing (be sure to change it back after you're done of course).
