[Siliconera] Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition Lets You Play As Sir Knight Artorias

Miyazaki told us that Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition is pretty much a direct port of the console release. There are around three to four new stages, four new bosses, a new stage for PvP, and a handful of new NPCs made for new players. Players will also be able to pick up new equipment from some of the bosses. He also said that From Software is aware of the frame rate issues in certain areas of the console version of Dark Souls, in particular Blight Town. He couldn’t comment on the frame rate issues in the PC version since the game is still under development, which is about 70–80 percent complete.

I also asked about Steam support and possible cross-platform compatibility with the PS3 version of Dark Souls. Unfortunately, Miyazaki confirmed that platform is still TBD so they do not know if it will support Steam.

If it's GFWL cross platform play with PS3 gamers is unlikely to happen, even if it uses Steam aswell.

However if it was possible for PC players to tap into both playerbases that would be a very good feat indeed and would instantly make this the one version to rule them all for the playerbase available to the player from the offset.

Main thing about a direct port is to hope it works on decent hardware.

Plus, Is the GFWL not even confirmed yet? If its just the cover that says Games for windows i have had many games like that that have used steam only or just a disc check like wolfenstien 09 Sacred 2 Call of duty W@W Company of heroes, Ect...

From another article that I just stumbled across:
Quote:
Miyazaki was hesitant to comment on the DRM, but it appears Namco Bandai hasn’t settled on GFWL quite yet.

“At the Namco Gamers Day event, box art of the title showed a GFWL logo, prompting a disappointed response from some gamers who view the service as inferior to other contenders such as Steam,” Stuart writes. “However, while Miyazaki wouldn’t comment, Namco’s publishing producer for the game, Daisuke Uchiyama, told reporters that the final decision had yet to be made and that partnership negotiations were ongoing.”

Source

Edit- There's also this:
Quote:
"Morning all,

Just to keep you updated. We (the whole European team) have been feverishly gathering all your thoughts and comments and will be approaching the development teams etc with this ASAP and we will move on from there.

Don't worry your voices have not been forgotten and I once AGAIN want to say how thankful I am that the community are able to voice there opinions so well!"

I wonder if From Software or Namco are using the extra-content as an early-pc exclusive due to their worry that the port won't be up to our expectations (Which will probably be true for some folk.) Honestly I just hope it's stable enough on launch to play (The singleplayer aspect at least, I won't bother with coop/PvP until I've played a few hours of the 'singleplayer' myself.)

the multiplayer aspect of the game is rather intresting, if its the same way as the ps3 and 360 version then you're logged into online play immediately when you log in and other players that are playing can jump in and out of your single player world to kill you and steal your souls, however you can always survive the encounter or kill them and earn their souls ;-)

Its a unique system different from other types of online play, to be honest I think in the 20 hours i've been playing dark souls I've been invaded only once so it doesn't happen often but it still can and it sucks when it does. maybe I should spend more time hopping into other peoples worlds and killing them to piss them off for some more entertainment.

I already know that you need humanity to become 'living' again in order to be invaded; so I would simply play the undead role for a few hours before even attempting PvP/Coop. smile.gif

haha wow I didn't even know that! I'm rarely ever in human so that would explain the lack of invasions!
