It's considered best practice not to seat a fitting all the way, in order to prevent over-compressing the o-ring. There should be a slight gap left where you can see a tiny bit of the ring.

With modern fittings that is not a problem. They have grooves, and should be so tight as to no o-ring being visible. Metal on metal contact should be achived to make sure the fittings stay tight.

Yes, my versions of the bitspower fittings have groves next to the G1/4 threads that the o-ring seats in and hides in when they are installed. The base is milled to keep the O-ring from getting over compressed.
