Upgrading my computer.

Hello overclockers, I'm in need of upgrading my current computer.. since its getting pretty old.

Currently I've :

Gpu : geforce msi n460gtx hawk factory overclocked
Ram : 8 gb ddr2 ram
Cpu : amd phenom x4 810 2,6Ghz
Psu : Eregon 650w
Motherboard : Asus m3n78

*Cough* Huge bottleneck at CPU and GPU *Cough*

And I'll be upgrading to :

Gpu : Geforce Msi n460gtx hawk factory overclocked
Cpu : Intel Core i7 2700K / 3.5 GHz
Psu : Corsair Enthusiast Series TX650 V2
Ram : Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8GB 1600MHz CL9 2x4GB Kit
Motherboard : Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 (rev. 1.0)

I am a total retard at building computers. But I just want a good CPU for now and I'll upgrade my GPU later when I can afford it. But will it create any bottlenecks?

And will the stuff fitt together???? - Most important question, lol.. and the bottleneck problems.

Thanks for taking your time to read and answer this :-).

I'll use it for TERA online, battlefield 3 and such.

Well, my first suggestion would be to go with a Core i5 2500k or 2550k rather than the 2700k. You'll save a lot of money and it performs literally just as well for gaming. If you're so inclined, you could then take the extra money from there and put it towards a higher end graphics card.

That's a good RAM kit there, 8GB is all you need for gaming. I would personally recommend an ASRock or Asus motherboard, since I had issues with my Corsair RAM not being compatible with the Gigabyte one I got originally.

As far as bottlenecks, with what you have listed, you'll definitely be GPU-limited rather than CPU-limited (not necessarily a bad thing, it has to be one or the other, obviously lol).

Also, welcome to OCN! smile.gif

if you're mainly a gamer then i'm gonna agree that an i7 isn't totally necessary. Now, if you decide to do folding, bitcoin mining, etc... then the extra threads make a difference.

in any case, a 2500k with a solid z68 motherboard and you've got a good start. I like just about anything gigabyte but i've built a couple of machines with the asrock extreme motherboards, and i like those as well.

I personally would suggest getting that 2500k instead of the 2700k and using the extra cash to get another 460 and run sli for now. later you can overclock the hell out of the 2500k and grab a better video card (when needed)

you will tear games up with that kind of set up. thumb.gif

Can't really help you without knowing general purposes, budget, & monitor setup.

For instance:
1650x1080 monitor
$500 budget
& autocad work, 3d rendering, other workstation stuff as primary purpose is vastly different recommendation from:

2560x1440 monitor
$1200 budget
& playing BF3/Shogun 2:Total war

And either of the above but gaming with just SC2, LoL & DOTA2 is different again.

Edit: Oh you answered it. TERA Online & BF3. Large multiplayer BF3? Has different requirements than just single player.

Alright.

I will get the Intel I5 2500k 3,3.

And I can afford another msi n460gtx hawk but I can't find it anywhere anymore. So, do they still sell it? and can it run fine on 650w power supply?
Can anyone post a link where to get it because I can't find it.. I live in Europe by the way tongue.gif

Thanks for the help everyone thumb.gif

16v16 or 32v32 matches in battlefield 3. I'm not a singleplayer type

Edit:

Found one here; http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BG-197-MS

Is it a good deal. But I've to ship it from U.k to Denmark.

Nice build and yes 2500k is the way to go thumb.gif On your corsair unit 650w yes it can run 2x 460's in sli although in the future i would opt for a single quick card over the two lower end cards in sli.

Overclockers are a good reputable company and i would recommend them

Nothing happens when I press on buy. I can't buy a single thing on that site, geeesh..

And MSI doesn't make the card anymore and I can't find it anywhere else, so I guess I've to survive with one card, eh?

Edit: Figured it out, had to change my browser lol
