i7 870 / H55M-ED55 OC suggestions?

Hello everyone,
I'll start right-off-the-bat and say that I'm completely new to the forum as well, and have very limited experience in overclocking. I was hoping I could get some feedback and/or suggestions on how to go about overclocking my build. I'm a "simmer" so I'm more into trying to optimize CPU-heavy games such as FSX, which you probably already know are not very optimized to begin with unfortunately... So here's my current build:

- Intel Core i7-870 @2.93GHz
- MSI H55M-3D55 Micro ATX mainboard
- 2x2GB Kingston ValueRam @1333MHz (considering an upgrade to 2x4GB GSkill RipJaws @1600MHz, by the way would this be a worthy upgrade?)
- EVGA GTX470 SC
- 650 watt BFG PSU

Does anyone have a similar build that's overclocked as far as the mainboard and cpu go? I'm at the university now for a couple more weeks - this'll be my first project of the summer biggrin.gif

Thanks in advance!

I used to have my i7 870 overclocked at 3.8ghz with the Gigabyte H55M-S2H motherboard, with turbo disabled, C1 C3 states all disabled and without increasing voltage. i would like to let you know that with the Gigabyte motherboard i was able to use the program EasyTune to overclock my PC, but when i got to do is manually through the bios, ~3.76ghz was the highest clock i remember getting to without increasing voltages.

when i let go of the gigabyte motherboard and my current (sig rig) Inferno Katana LGA 1156 motherboard i was able to get to 3.83ghz overclock without increasing voltages and i was able to hit 4.0ghz on it aswell smile.gif which is pretty decent. best of luck for you, i advise you checking out some first gen i7 overclocking guides they are helpful.
