[Rock, Paper, Shotgun] Dark Souls PC: Prepare To Sigh - Page 7

What happened to the days of enjoying a game instead of complaining about every minute detail that rubs someone the wrong way for a silly reason? Entitlement has its place, but this is a joke.

It's a direct slap the face.

Exactly this, except don't pirate games, period wink.gif

It takes minimal man-hours to make a half-assed port with no optimizations and no additional features. This game better be $29.

Yep, I can't believe people say that we owe these developers for releasing games. It's a two way street, they make 'em, we buy 'em. Everybody wins, except when a game gets released that's not up to par. If they really don't enable the PC options that have been standard for years I think $29 is a bit much to ask

PC gaming is certainly more flexible than console gaming but it wouldn't kill or bankrupt the devs to add a little more functionality from the get go.

Or are we going to do that thing we do on OCN where someone posts "the sky is purple" and then everyone runs around angry because the sky is apparrently turning purple?

Here is the link to the original Japanese interview. http://www.famitsu.com/news/201204/18013184.html
Since most can't read Japanese around here I will translate the point of contention...

Translation:
Q: Are you going to be doing a direct port of the PS3 and Xbox360 version for the PC while not adding on any additional features?
Miyazaki (Namco): Yes. It will basically be a faithful port. There will not be any changes to the resolution and the frame rate will not be able to run at 60.

.....Looks like the game will be 720p and 30FPS to me. This is straight from the source.

It's literally a straight console port.

Locked at 30 fps, no graphics settings port.

We are entitled to 60 fps seeing as it's pretty much the sweet spot in PC gaming. Normally I'd agree with you that complaining is silly, but THIS is silly enough to complain about. It's almost as if all they're dong is copy pasting the console version to PC and calling it a day, while adding in new bosses/areas which were likely already planned DLC for the consoles.

All we really want is 60 fps. I myself did not expect PC level textures and graphics settings, but 60 fps? Come on.

30FPS? As long as it's solid I don't care.

So we're getting exactly what we asked for, Dark Souls on PC. The game looks and runs fine on console, as long as it performs the same on PC then it's worth the money. Is it really so hard to compromise?

Dude i agree with you and i'm glad that we are getting the game at all, but locked at 30FPS? :/
post #68 of 241
Part of me is sad, but I already expected this is be a full fledged port and I was hearing a lot of skeptical talk on a few podcasts about it already. As long as it runs well I will most likely support it to hopefully see the next title get proper support on the PC.

That's just a poor translation. It appears he was really saying that the game won't always run at 60fps, meaning the blighttown issues are still present.
Quote:
He also said that From Software is aware of the frame rate issues in certain areas of the console version of Dark Souls, in particular Blight Town. He couldn’t comment on the frame rate issues in the PC version since the game is still under development, which is about 70–80 percent complete.

There are plenty of games that run at 30 FPS that look great, even at 720p. Just look at PS3, lots of surprisingly good looking games.
