somethings funky going from 4.5 to 4.6 2500k on z77

hey everyone. long time lurker, first time caller =p

anyway, ill just dive right in here...

so i bought all this

450

fractal arc midi case
i5 2500k
antec ea 650 green power supply
22x LG sata burner
Kingston Hyperx khx1600c9d3k2/8gx
gigabyte hd7870 oc 2gb
hitachi 1tb sata 6 oem
gigabyte ga-z77x-udh5 motherboard
corsair h100 cooler

and it looks like this...

450

started working on this build last night. although something seems off when i try to push from 4.5 to 4.6. 1.365 is fine for 4.5 but 4.6 i found myself all the way to 1.4 before i decided to stop and rethink things. i shouldnt have to push the voltage in that big a step to just get another 100mhz out of it dont you think?

anyway, heres the logs from everything so far. thanks in advance if you end up helpin me, and regardless, thanks for takin the time to read my thread =p

Doesn't seem too out of the ordinary. Not every chip can do 4.6ghz+.

I know my chip will do 4.4ghz stable @ around 1.32v but it isn't stable @ 4.5ghz until 1.368 and I need 1.4v @ 4.6ghz to not crash the second I start up prime95.

You might want to enable PLL overvoltage because a lot of chips seem to need that enabled when going over 4.5ghz.

i looked and looked last night, and i dont see pll overvoltage anywhere in my bios.

http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z77x-ud5h_e.pdf

ive never had to adjust it so im not even used to looking for it to be honest.

here are the screens that look to me like where a setting like that should be.

Sometimes enabling or adjusting one setting reveals new ones, like an expanding tree view. Go look at some Gigabyte forums.

And make a "rig" to put in your sig so people know what you're using.

I have some IC7, and it was a lot longer than a couple of hours for mine to set. I think you're supposed to heat it, apply it then let it evaporate for 10 minutes before seating your cooler.

Anyway, twice for me it was a big drop after one day.
