UPS Backup: Recommend me something!

Thread Starter
I am looking at getting a UPS backup unit. I'm in need of recommendations. I know that Tripp Lite makes good stuff but I don't know what to get. I'll be plugging in a PC (550w PSU) and the monitor (Acer 23" LCD).

Would like to know what is a good buy, but also a good value if anything is currently on sale. Willing to spend money but if there is something suitable for under $100 that'd be great.

Also what about line conditioner either built in or not? Good thing to have? And does a UPS generally provide surge protection or only on certain models? thinking.gif

As all my current build needs is a UPS (who needs to be able read DVDs/BD/s tongue.gif) I'm also quite interested in the communities recommendations.

This maybe larger than what you are looking for, but the larger it is the longer you can run on battery. I have one and really like it.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's a little more than I want to spend on a unit. Will keep it in mind though.

Any other suggestions OCN? frown.gif

Corsair PSU?

Your computer might shut off on "simulated" sine wave (< $100) UPS if you get an outage because of the active pfc.

I suggest getting a "pure" sine wave model from Cyberpower. But, they aren't much cheaper than the APC mentioned above ($142 for the 510w). They come in different wattage sizes... 510w, 600w, 810w, and higher.

I would try and figure out how much power you use before you buy a UPS, so you get the correct wattage (I purchased mine with the intent that I'd be playing a game when the power went out and I'm around 550w in games). You can pick up a kill-a-watt and test the draw from the wall on desktop and games. Once you know the wattage you need, then you can decide what you need to get.
