The way he described it is almost identical to how it works with TVs.
They record the location of the player(or TV watcher).
They record the times the player(or watcher) is viewing ads.
They form a guess as to who their target is.
They market ads based on the time/location that are likely to suit the target.
So...unless I'm missing something...it's TV in a game, minus the show/movie.
