They record the location of the player(or TV watcher).
They record the times the player(or watcher) is viewing ads.
They form a guess as to who their target is.
They market ads based on the time/location that are likely to suit the target.

So...unless I'm missing something...it's TV in a game, minus the show/movie.
How do you figure they record the time the person watching TV. TV / Cable / Satilite programming has no data transmission back to the provider.

What I want to know is where exactly these ads will be located in the game?

Um, that's not what happens. They do not log what you watch on TV. The only time they do is if you have a Neilsen box, which is for networks to gauge your interest in shows, not commercials, and you have to install the box in your house and you are aware of it.

They don't log everyones TV signals and what channel you are watching. And I don't care how this particular program works or what it's designed to do....it has nothing to do with the game, and you aren't advised of it until you open the box.......meaning you can;t return t......that's crap.

This is most definitely a slippery slope. While the first incarnation of in-game adware may not be intrusive I am positive that future updates will monitor/record more info - and transmit much more back to EA. They may not be doing much now, but in the future they will not be explaining the system in detail to us, and will probably make the system more into textbook spyware than this instance

The problem is, they are charging us $50 for a poorly programmed game. However I am sure they spend a lot of time programming this ad crap that makes them lots of money.

the tv advertises the common people that watch the tv (kids shows = toys)

if the TV worked the same why bf2142 will work is The tv watches what u are doing (ex if you listen to music they will advertive music, or if u have sex or sexual type things you will get porn adds)

its spyware do u want somone knowing what ur doing then try to sell it to u?

we have to tell EA we dont want this CRAP that gets in the way of gamming AND SLOWS DOWN THE COMPUTER

i ahve nothign to hide...no illegal material on my computer.....all sensitive files are attatched to my linux distro. This honestly doesn't bother me. Now, if they required you to buy a webcame and have it on all the time while you played....then i would be worried

What really bothers me is the bandwidth that this will take up. How do you suppose you are going to get these ads. They will be streamed in by EA during gameplay. They are going to be using my internet to stream to me advertisement in a game that I paid to play. Thats crap.

I just got done playing 2142 for about 2 hours. I never noticed ANY of the ads that they said there would be. If you're looking at ads on bilboards, you shouldnt be playing FPS games. My stance is that whatever ads there are, unless you look for them (instead of looking for people shooting at you) you wont even notice.
