watercooling obsolete?

Thread Starter
i was really interested in watercooling my pc and getting a huge case because it runs loud but i never got around to doing it.. now that ivy bridge and 28nm graphics cards are being released is there any point in watercooling considering how cool new tech runs/will run? there is hardly any difference performance difference between at 4.5ghz vs a 5.0ghz OC.

i dont see the need to spend $300 on watercooling anymore when u can get high air cooling for CPU for $90 and a replace gfx card fans with better ones for like $20. is watercooling dead/dying?

no way, it will be around for a long time.. while you might be able to go out and get a decent air cooler it still will not drop your temps like water can, and you can still not push the power like you can under water. also, everyone knows the cooler you can keep electrical equipment the longer it will last.

watercooling isn't dead, it is just expensive. but once you have a good rad, cpu block, gpu block, fans, pump, res, it gets a lot cheaper over the years! lol. but if you dont have the money, then aircooling is a better option. if someone had like a modded case that had like 10 140mm rads in push pull, and good liquid, air wouldnt stand a chance, but the odds of someone going to that extent are pretty slim so... winksmiley02.gif

Once you start overclocking for real, and your CPU really starts to pump out heat, you will see that watercooling is far superior to air cooling. not only that but graphics cards that are heavily overclocked will benefit from the cooling. having the same cooling surface area as dual Quadruple Rads will never be achieved with a $90 air cooler

how is watercooling in terms of achieving silence and compactness. i dont want to have radiators hanging outside of my case with 8 fans running.

^better then air^

Water will always keep your components cooler, and its quite a bit quieter. Radiators like the RX series from XSPC allow you to use lower RPM fans and still keep great temps. Water cooling requires a lot more planning and money than air, but it is much better.
