watercooling obsolete? - Page 2

Watercooling will live on. Even if the new cpu/gpu's run cooler the heat will increase when overclocking and that is why people will still be watercooling.

Air cooling is obsolete.....and I read somewhere that ivy bridge heats up to like 90 degrees during full load, if not more, so I think youll be needing even better water cooling anyways
post #13 of 80
You dont get better OC then Air Cooling but you get get same OC with silent noise. There are different types of water coolers. Most go for Good Performance with Silent fans <1000 RPM, Some go for Maximum Cooling.

i dont see the need to spend $300 on watercooling anymore when u can get high air cooling for CPU for $90 and a replace gfx card fans with better ones for like $20. is watercooling dead/dying?

The theory was wrong..They run hotter..can't really keep a SB chip cool either..not even with icewater :lachen.gif:
Yeah ..I s'pose watercooling is a thing of the past..now everyone's gonna need SS Cascade to cool their CPUs devil.gif
1156s don't run cool either..

But I've read threads where someone with a similar chip/OC was hitting 90c tongue.gif

It definitely isn't dying, but I think an argument can definitely be made that air cooling is easier, cheaper, and nearly as good. I have yet to see anyone post saying they were able to overclock significantly more on water vs a quality air HSF. I disagree that water is less noisy than air, it's a wash IMO. Water may transfer heat better, but that heat will always need to be blown/carried away from the computer with fans of some kind.

Wait, this isn't a troll thread?

Just read the 1st post. Ask yourself, is he trolling?

Because it sounds like he is

And, watercooling is not obsolete.

Air cooling is smile.gif

This picture isn't the best, but I just snapped one quick. It can be pretty quiet and compact, to save space I have a bay res with a pump inside. And a fan controller to adjust the fan speed, with the fans low it still cools pretty well and it's quiet. (Note: Don't mind the out of place wires, I haven't had too much time lately to manage them tongue.gif)

@Schmuckley, Watercooling easily keeps SB cool.. They aren't hot chips at all.

1) Pretty darn sure water cooling has never been more popular.

2) When will people understand water cooling is a hobby?!?!

One thing is for sure that Water Cooling is just getting bigger. 5 years ago very few people have Water Cooled Systems here. Now its like 10-15 times as many people.
