Different temp readings.

Guys,

My Thuban 960T is sitting @4.0 G's @1.465v , now Coretemp shows an idle of 28-30 and AMD Overdrive shows as 44c now what is the difference in both. Is AMD Overdrive reading socket temp ?

post a pic, iron. i always go by cpu temp, since core temps do not register when the chip is unlocked. i keep the cpu temp below 62 loaded.

core temps are always a few degrees lower than cpu temp. use hw monitor or speedfan. set the cpu temp reading on the task bar using speedfan.

There you go. taskbar shows Coretemp reading and the one on the desktop is from AMD Overdrive and that's x4 and not x6, I will not unlock till I know the temps of all six cores.

40c at 3GHz? Are you using the stock AMD cooler, because when I'm clocked like that, I sit at 14c.

Also, when unlocked, only the socket temp is shown, and that's usually 3-5c higher then my core temps are, so that's what I go by.

I am using a Hyper TX3 with push & pull and 6 120 mm fans in the case. If you look at the taskbar that's where my CoreTemp readings are and they match HWMonitor temps. My idling is @25-27 and max maybe around 45 full load.

That was my question does AMD Overdrive only show you socket temps ? Because Coretemp and Hwmonitor shows you core temps.

you idle @14c that's just wow , is that due to the EVO ? And how are you getting 4.0 G's @1.36v is that because of the mobo ?

And the thermal paste I am using is a cheapo one Called as Nepali thermal Paste probably would cost a cent in the US smile.gif and I have used this paste many times and have not faced any problem smile.gifOK OK OK I know it is dangerous to use these local paste and should go with Artic silver or MX but here in India it is only Cooler Master which is available and it performs the same as the Nepali paste.

I changed back to my old Asus M4A78LT - M LE and put the 960T on it and OC'ed to 4.0 G's but at a higher volt 1.55v with NB @3000 @1.4v, than ran AMD Overdrive the temps it showed are 33c as earlier it was showing 40c on the 880gm-d2h but of course I have removed the extra pull fan from the HSF and let the pulling be done by the case fan which is exactly behind the former pull fan.

crap y did I buy the gigabyte motherboard frown.gif

iron,

can you post a pic of your cpuz like this one . . .

567

use hw monitor

i'd like to help you lower your cpu vcore. but from my experience, the cpu cooler is a big factor of doing so.

Posting cpu-z pics will not help. And anyway I put in the old motherboard and i am going to get rid of the gigabyte board. But anyway I will tell you my BIOS settings

CPU 4.0 G's @1.55v
NB @3000 Mhz @1.4v
RAM @stock

HT @2000

I doubt on my motherboards I will able to go down on the cpu vcore. I have a good cooler so no issues.

Ok Let me get back home and I will post you the HWmonitor and CPU-z pics.

i may have given you a bad example. 1.596 doh.gif.

anyway, for 4GHz you might just need the NB (CPU/NB) at 2600 or 2800 MHz and lower its voltage to 1.35v if possible. set HT voltage to 1.25v instead of auto.

are you using onboard audio?
