I love the idea of SFF computing, that its now brought me to build an ultra small PC. This is currently very rough planning.

Parts List:
Motherboard - KEEX-6100
CPU - Intel i7 2630QM @2Ghz Quad-core 6M Cache
RAM - Corsair 4GB 1066mhz DDR3 SO-DIMM
Cooling - G2 Heatsink with fan
303
Wireless: - Intel 6230 WiFi/Bluetooth Mini-PCIe and 3G Sim card daughter board.
Storage: CF or SSD (undecided) Whats CF performence like for running an OS?

The PC will be for light, light gaming, internet browsing, hackintosh, and some Backtrack mischief. The case I'm designing now but if anyone's got any ideas id be happy to hear them! biggrin.gif

Estimated cost about $651

The case is going to be black stainless steel. All cables will be sleeved including those hidden inside the mesh to help hide them further!

I've been looking into building a SFF pc as well! Something tiny with the ability to run osx. The Keex 6100 looks like a good option. Tested for hackintosh... but does sound via a usb if I'm correct... http://www.dremeljunkie.com/2011/11/all-in-one-20-imac-g4-genuine-tmds-to.html which isn't too big a deal.

Excited to see how you go with this as I might follow your lead.... being this small you could hollow out a book to fit in it, might be a fire hazard tho smile.gif

Or get a big coffee cup, aluminum travel mug style, and offer people drinks all the time, when they pick it up they will trip out biggrin.gif

I was thinking a simple but elegant rectangle case. Almost a Mac Mini but as a rectangle.

Great idea though!

I've decided the basics of the chassis. A aluminium or matte black simple rectangle. with simple vents above the CPU fan and an illuminated logo.

The Logo will say JKL Computers as it will be my first custom made case and will most likely be my favourite PC even though it is nowhere near as powerful as my others. Hopefully i can get a heatsink fan that will match the Logo's illumination.

The CPU will now be the i7 quad-core as i've decidied i want this to be an all out project.

what is the purpose of the machine? i7 IGP is not enough if you want to do any kind of gaming on it. you'd be better off with llano. if you aren't looking to do any kind of gaming, then wait for ivybridge. it'd save you quite abit of thermal / power requirements.

The best thing about this build for me is it's been proven to run osx... had trouble finding any small mobo that would...

Also with these sff pcs wouldn't it be the graphics where gaming would really fall down? Not sure if the intel 3000 would be too good?

Would you be able to swap an ivy bridge cpu into this motherboard?

I'm liking the sketches Nutty Pumpkin, are you going to be building the case from scratch?
