Adaptive VSync Revelation

Thread Starter
So I am wondering if anyone else has been using adaptive vsync.

I started turning it on as a standard practice for all my games and am amazed at what I am seeing. In both Skyrim, Battlefield 3, and Crysis 2 it has REALLY smoothed out my gameplay and stopped tearing. But that's not the best part. In Battlefield 3, for example, I have noticed that AVS makes my GPU utilization go down because its not flooring it trying to push frames. This actually makes my card run 5-6C cooler (and much quieter). AMAZING.

I can't state how happy I am with this card and with this feature. Anyone else have any thoughts?

tl;dr; -- Adaptive VSync is amazing

It is pretty nice. Everything is smoother with it on and it actually seems like I get less mouse lag in BF3 over the in-game Vsync option.

Well aside from the fact that your description sounds like all the reasons I've used regular v-sync on every game I've played for the past 8 years or so ... it DOES sound amazing wink.gif

I'll have to check this thing out, see if I can tell a difference versus regular v-sync thinking.gif

Yeah, I usually leave it turned on. Limits the framerate on my computer to about 60, but then whatever else the GPU can push isn't being used, thus lower temps and longer life.

Really, I have read reports from many experts that the average human can barely tell a difference past 30 fps, but after 60, virtually none see a difference. So, no use pushing into an area that humans can't even tell the difference.

Well, having an LCD limits my refresh to 62 frames anyway. It's SUPER smooth in BF3 with 60fps,so I don't think I am missing anything by not going above that.

And it really feels like I am getting tangible efficiency improvements with it since my fan profile can really be modified to reduce the noise the fan makes. I honestly think this is the top feature of the v300 drivers.

Hmmm... I kinda think that vSync is holding back my folding@home though.... rolleyes.gif

I do love the idea A-Vsync, but I still get screen tearing with it enabled frown.gif

If it works well in practise then great, but it looks average to me.

As far as I can tell, all it does is turn vsync off when your framerate goes down, which would mean you still get the dreaded mouse lag due to backbuffering, and you can still theoretically get stutters.
