What's wrong? HELP (last one hopefully)

New PC does not power on normally, every fan turns on, the motherboard makes a single beep and the light for BOOT_DEVICE turns on. I have put windows in my optical drive and everything. Does it mean that none of my Sata cables are properly connected or something? (Asus P8Z68-V motherboard, computer connected via HDMI to a tv).

Try hooking it up via VGA if you can and see what you get.

Did VGA, same thing. My TV receives no signal. Just to be 100% does a rewriter read? It isn't my TV either, that works fine with my PS3.

Yes a rewriter reads. So you just get one beep(POST Check)? Then a black screen? You don't get any messages, images, nothing? Can you get into the bios?

No I can't get into BIOS. Absolutely nothing happens, my monitor doesn't pic up an HDMI signal despite the fact that everything is turning on. That boot drive LED seems important but I don't know why it doesn't think there is a boot drive when there is. Should I plug the optical drive in via the red S-ATA cable coming from my case or a S-ATA data cable that came from my motherboard, it still turns on with the red one. On a side note, are the molex fan adaptors always annoying to plug in and always quite loose?

1) It shouldn't matter which SATA cable you use. SATA cable is a SATA cable.

2) Yeah they are always crap. The pins wiggle and you just gotta fumble with them until they finally go in.

3) Are the specs in your sig the specs for your full rig? If so, on your memory is that a 2x4GB kit?

1.) Yes it's 2x4GB
2.) It now displays the on-screen message 'select proper boot device and reboot or insert boot media in selected boot device. How can I change my boot device if it doesn't let me enter BIOS? And yes I ahve put Windows in my optical drive, and yes I have tried spamming delete during boot up.

The cheap way to do it would be to unplug the harddrive and boot off the disc. However make sure that the keyboard lights up and is detected. From the time you press the power button start spamming DEL. Try it a couple times. If that doesn't work I once had to unplug the HDD and boot off the disc, then before you press "Install Now" on windows, plug the SATA cable back in. Its kinda the ghetto way to do it, but it worked.

I hate to jump to conclusions but maybe you have a faulty motherboard? I actually have 4 of the same motherboards sitting here and all of them go straight into the BIOS when I press DEL. I'm starting to run out of ideas.

So with the HDD unplugged you get the first problem? Or when you spam DEL you get the first problem? Maybe the BIOS is displaying in a resolution that your TV doesn't understand? Try a normal monitor if you have one and see what you get.
