[DS] Ubisoft Sued For Ripping off Assassin's Creed. - Page 4

I could see this one ending up with the dude walking out of the court room with few mils in his pocket as a settlement. As some have already noted, few millions isnt a lot of cash for Ubi for silencing him, as there are clearly similarities.
ps. I've read the book, pretty much crap imo.

I personally think he should take this as a compliment and keep the AC series going but should still get money for it seeing as pretty much the whole game was based on his book.

How much money would be enough though? I'm sure his pride is involved. I mean the guy wrote a book that is clearly copied in a lot of ways by AC. I would be pissed and want to shut down whoever stole my idea. It's a matter of principle rather than just money. Otherwise he'd be asking for more money and royalties.

Tell me, how many of you have actually read the books to come to this conclusion? There isn't even one ounce of evidence in that article to even remotely come to such conclusions.

Did you read the book(s) to come to your conclusion?

I want to read these books now.

I've always wondered what the apple was a metaphor for, and they've never actually shown the "real" power of the apple(s) hinted throughout the games.

Intriguing

(goes to read the article)

edit: article read (it was short)

from the complain logged @ the source
Quote:
“I have given much thought to this. I know the very stability of our
government is at stake. We must find who was behind the mass
assassination, but if the Search International process is in our hands,
in the hands of any government, it will lead to great evils,” on page

“I could see in His eyes He was aware that I too
was watching Him through the eyes of my ancestor. He was
speaking to me!”

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
Sounds an aweful lot like the forbearers or whatever they're called when they starts speaking to Desmond at the end of the AC2, then ezio speaks to desmond at the end of brotherhood

there's many more, but that one stuck out the most.

edit:

to those saying that this person is just trying to get money

I had "designs" up @ deviantart that I spent many hours on, and someone took one and turned it into a sticker that I saw on the backs of cars when I was driving around during work.

I saw them every day, and got more and more angry that someone else was making money using my designs without paying for them. If I could've found out who it was, you bet your keister they would've gotten a "stop it now" letter. Pride is the driving force for many human emotions, and if I saw a mega-corporation making billions of dollars off my idea, you bet your Sunday best I'm getting a chunk of that, from the past and the future. Some ideas are very unique, and 6m isn't as significant as asking to end the franchise, which is where the pride comes in.

Either the man is ignorant or it took him this long to realise and cook up this theory. Either way, both situations would discredit him. If it took him this long to figure out what Assassins Creed is, how well do you think he really understands the story line of the game?
If he's not a gamer how well do you think he really understands the game? He probably never even played it.
...what?

It looks like you're the ignorant one here, not him.

How hard is it to understand that he's not a gamer? Just because you are, doesn't mean the rest of the world is.

It took him this long to find out about assassins creed because he's not a gamer and was likely busy doing other things ( He's also a research engineer with many patents ). If you look him up, you can see the guy is over 60 years old. People of that age don't know much, if anything, about games, meaning he wouldn't have known about it for years since the advertisements aren't targeted at him ( And he most likely doesn't have friends that knew about it either ). Why is this surprising to you?

I'm pretty sure he understands the story of the game. I'm also pretty sure he's played it. Why? Because he wouldn't have any chance in court if he hadn't played the game and did his research.

Seriously, it's not hard to understand.

What if he's not a gamer? Some random old friend of his picked up Assassin's Creed and called him up. "Dude! Are you aware of this game? It's almost IDENTICAL to your book!"

Afterall, if he doesn't play video games how would he know about it? Even if he did hear about the game, there's no way to actually make comparisons if he didn't play it himself.
By the time he found out about it and played it, it was probably already a few years after AC1 released. After that it probably took time to build the case.

Fair enough if he didn't play it but I don't see how he couldn't have known about it until now. Even when AC1 was still new there were adverts everywhere for it. It would have been impossible to not know about it unless he lives in a third world country.

You have to live in a third world country to not know the plot of a big-title video game? There are countless "huge" titles that I have no clue about, and I'm a gamer. That's like saying "How do you not know what the movie X is about? It's one of the biggest movies in history." *Shrugs* "I don't know? Maybe I've just never really cared to watch it or read about it?"

I meant not to know about it because of the adverts. I have never seen any of the Twilight movies yet I know about it, and it's just as big as AC. I do also know the story of Twilight from advertisements just like I know the story of AC from the advertisements.

There's a huge different between knowing about a game/movie and playing/watching it.

You DID NOT just compare AC to Twilight.

And the only thing you would know about AC if you saw the adverts is it's about an assassin. That's it, there's no mention of the methodology in any of the adverts.
