You have a gaming bias. Your (we) are naturally more inclined to pick up more from the adverts than your average baby boomer..
I don't remember ever seeing the animus in any adverts, and comparatively the twilight story is about 1/16th(ok maybe 1/32) as complex as the AC trilogy.
I understand what your saying, but consider that we're both operating with a bias, called "Hindsight Bias
We tend to expect that others should know by foresight what we have learned by hindsight.
Try to put yourself in a 60yr gentleman's shoes who writes fiction (maybe even from a typewriter or very simple word processor) for a living (no idea if this is the case, making an assumption to prove a point)..

All the commercials portray it to be just an assassin game, no crazy tech travel to the past kind of stuff. So even if he saw the commercials, they don't draw a close comparison to the book until you actually play.
