Most people tend to cry foul when having to use GFWL because they are not familiar with it. ive been using it since gears of war was released in 2007. i know hundreds that have used it since 2007 for games and none have the problems. does that invalidate your problems, no. that just means, just like steam. tehre are people who use it without incident.
Steam/Origin/GFWL are all good at what they do. do i wish i had one program that controlled all my games, yes. Does it really matter, NOT AT ALL.

The difference is Steam doesn't suck in its implementation and GFWL does. Ever started a GFWL game without an online account? And then create an online account later? Or migrate your GFWL games (despite being purchased through Steam) from one OS installation to another? It does not recognize your offline progress. Most of the info on this points to you having to start all over. If you're lucky and/or smart, you can go hunting through the windows (or user) directory folders associated with the GFWL offline data to find it, copy it, and pray that the next time you start the game that it properly reads the game progress info so that way you don't have to start all over from square one on a game. But of course, there are two separate GFWL-associated directories, and it's not the obvious one that contains your savegame data. Why can't the offline savegame info be stored in the game's installation directory like most games? Instead of having two separate GFWL data locations stored in buried folders?

GFWL is the suck. It's a terribad implementation of a game service, and I can't fathom why people think it's good.

Really it ionly takes a few seconds longer and you only
Have to do it one time.

If it chooses to cooperate. I have bioshock 2 and god damn do is it a mission to get it to run the first time through installation. A bunch of paper work for the account refusing to update, refusing to connect, I pretty much gave up trying to run it the second time after it failed to connect again to update. In the end Bioshock 2 is still on my to play list.

Yet I never had a single issue?
Sometimes I doubt half the people complaining have even used it.

It's the same effect as AMD drivers I've found. A couple people have real serious issues and it snowballs to the point where popular opinion is that they are the worst thing ever and never ever work no matter what you do. Happens in all walks of life. It can go the other way to like how people think Chrysler makes good cars. (lol)

Why doesn't MS just outsource GFWL development to a up and coming team that actually knows what the community wants. MS has its own head so far up its arse that it has no idea it's even doing wrong by its consumers.

I've only played one game that uses it, and it worked when I played through it fine. My problem is I can't actually log back into it via the game anymore for whatever reason. I can log into my account via a web browser, but I can't do it in game. Good thing is that I don't play that game anymore so it's no biggie for me.

To everyone having problems logging in with GFWL I'd advise you to forward the necessary ports, it will probably help

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937424

The only problem I have with GFWL is taht it uses the exact same ports as Xbox Live, so if I want to play online on my Xbox without having any NAT issue, I need to switch the IP adress each time between PC/Xbox in my router's menu, and vice-versa.

Money is king, and there is only so much Microsoft can push this before people start to act out like they currently are.

One might argue that their user base already has fallen, and that Microsoft's answer to the situation is to put no money into fixing the problems since they already have a thriving customer base on the XBox 360.

Wow, is all I have to say.

In my experiences, GFWL is way broken. Decent when it works.
