i just dont want any performance dips while playing games like bf3 and stuff, this rig im building is like purely for gaming and mods, not really going to do much web searching besides for mods, youtube, facebook, and email stuff. so you guys are saying go mse with Malwarebyte, and Search bot and destroy? is that going to be light on my pc? remember this is a gaming rig
post #12 of 44
Yeah go with MSE and Malware Bytes...Not recommending Spybot S&D.

If you are just playing games, and not browsing/screwing around with unknown stuff, why do you need anti-virus running? If you are paranoid, get free AV, and run a scan once every few months.

I personally like ESET Nod32 which is what i use right now. When you go into a full screen application Nod32 goes into 'gamer mode' which pretty much makes it go into some what of a sleep mode where it is slightly disabled so it uses less resources. Also, Nod32 mainly uses ram so if you really care that much, buy more ram. You should still have malwarebytes on your computer btw since its not like you need to keep it open, just use it when ever you feel like scanning.

How is that?
I only use Spybot to immunize and remove malwares like root-kits. I don't like its "live" protection neither.

To OP, MSE alone is fine. Malwarebyte adds you extra protection against unknown web source (often blocks IPs). Database is regularly updated. Use a browser, no cookie saved, no script if you fear visiting web-site you do not trust. Keep the other for normal web-browsing and you shouldn't have any problem.

Do it as you wish. I have Spybot S&D just because I needed it to get rid of rootkits. I don't understand why the guy above say S&D was bad... He could elaborate a bit, everyone can make statements; few are facts.
