Yes, you will need it.

Go try it without yourself if you dont believe us.
Thermal paste is there to fill up tiny holes and gaps between the cpu and the cooler. If they are not filled the cooling will be limited.

Also, the H60 uses shin-etsu thermal paste by default and is one of the best compounds around.

Your temps look fine.

Thermal paste is a very high heat conductive paste that is used between two objects (usually a heatsink and a CPU/GPU) to get better heat conduction. It fills in all those microscopic imperfections on the heatsink and CPU/GPU that can trap air in them and cause a loss in the heatsink’s performance. Air is a very poor conductor of heat. Thermal Interface Materials (TIM) can be up to a 100 times greater conductor of heat than air.

No need to be a douche.

@OP The thermal paste is to make better contact between the CPU and the heatsink. You should definitely use it.

Processor: not perfectly flat. Heatsink: not perfectly flat. Microgrooves and whatnot up in these. Thermal paste transfers heat, fills the microgrooves. Gives you maximum surface area for transfer of heat from processor to heatsink.

You need a new repairman. This is basic heat transfer stuff.

Quote:
Thermal grease (also called thermal gel, thermal compound, thermal paste, heat paste, heat sink paste, heat transfer compound, heat transfer paste (HTP) or heat sink compound) is a viscous fluid substance, originally with properties akin to grease, which increases the thermal conductivity of a thermal interface by filling microscopic air-gaps present due to the imperfectly flat and smooth surfaces of the components; the compound has far greater thermal conductivity than air (but far less than metal). In electronics, it is often used to aid a component's thermal dissipation via a heat sink.

Your repairman probably has processors throttling down from heat...

There's nothing to improve. 50c is not bad at all. You can get some better fans to put on the rad if you want to shave off like another degree for 15$.

Thermal paste is needed. Just a little bit in the center and smoosh it out.
