Oracle says that all 37 APIs may not contain the same source code as its Java code, but that they have the same structure, sequence, and organization and that this means the overall architecture was copied. The company also accuses Google of copying its Java user manual and documentation.
Oracle is not bringing suit because of Android’s use of the Java programming language, Alsup explained, and it is not challenging the creation of Google’s Dalvik virtual machine — the Java-like platform that runs applications on Android. Oracle, he said, is merely challenging the design of those 37 APIs.

That's what I said.

Could this be the end of Java? Main reason into Java is for dev Android apps.

No, it is not a bad idea if you are worried about it going away. It cannot, there is an immense investment by so many parties in the language that it simply will not go away.

If you want to develop great Android apps, you will really be required to utilize Java if you want to be proficient with building apps on the platform. Certainly you can do some things with C++, but for the most part, the vast majority of Android apps are built entirely in Java.

Regardless, you will gain experience in venturing into Java and Android, and this experience will translate to other language and platforms, so you will not be losing anything by investing time.

No need to worry. If Oracle wins the case it sets a precedent that will destroy the entire software industry, so either you continue programming in Java, or you stop programming altogether because you won't be able to use an API without infringing on someone else's patent or copyright.

I wouldn't worry about Java dying, but there are much more modern languages that have yet to deal with bogged down bloated and excessive code.

C# seems so much nicer to me than Java, Java has been around since '95, and it shows in a lot of places, but for the most part its a good beginner language.
