ASUS Maximus V Formula Z77 (EDIT) Preview/First look - Page 2

Yeah I mean I don't even know if an extreme is necessary for my setup. I'm assuming this can do tri sli if I ever go that route, and I'm not doing ridiculous overclocks, maybe 4.5-4.7. But if it's coming in any reasonable amount of time it may be worth waiting just to see

i don't think it can do tri sli man.

An ROG board without tri sli possibility?
That just seems wrong. I cancelled my EVGA Z77 FTW preorder to wait for this lol

really??
even with 5 (or 4 not sure) PCI-e slots?
Oh well, looks like I'm stuck with 2 or going for another MB.
Thanks +REP

The MIVE comes with a 3-way SLI Bridge

NVM i bad lol i mean Maximus 4 Gene, sorry.

There can be a ROG board which wont support it, however i believe that the Maximus 5 Extreme will support 3 and 4 way SLI, however the Maximus 5 Formula will not. There aren't enough lanes. The M4E uses a NF200 which is a PCI-E 2.0 bridge chip which takes 16 lanes and then provides 32 lanes for the PCI-E slots. On the Maximus 5 Formula this isn't the case, but on the Maximus 5 Extreme you can expect a PLX8747 like the G1 Sniper 3 has, which allows 32x from 16x but with PCI-E 3.0.
