Shopping for a New Mouse, lots of info

Thread Starter
Hey, guys.

I'm looking for a new mouse for my rig (and a mousepad too, I suppose), and there are just way too many awesome-looking mice out there for me to be able to pick one. The only mouse I've ever used is the Razer Mamba (and some generic Apple mouses, but those are awful). I love the Mamba (and have been getting them almost exclusively these past few years), and I figured that I should at least shop around before getting another one.

Mouse:

1. What's your grip style?

Palm-grip; I tend to prefer larger mouses. I'm also right-handed.

2. What's your sensitivity?

I guess I'm a medium-sensitivity gamer, but I'm not really sure. I've never thought about this before.

3. What's your maximum budget?

$150 for a mouse, $50 for a mousepad. That said, less is always better; I don't want to purchase an expensive mouse if its features aren't worth the extra cash.

4. Do you want additional buttons?

I'm not sure. As I mentioned above, I've used the mamba almost exclusively for a number of years. I don't really use most of the buttons in the grand majority of the games I play, but when I do, Razer's Macro functionality is very useful.

To be completely honest, I would say that I only ever use a total of 4 buttons (left, right, and the mamba's thumb buttons extremely rarely).

5. What games do you play?

Starcraft II, Battlefield 3, Skyrim, Diablo II/III, RPGs, etc. I like all kinds of games.

6. Do you mind about prediction?

I don't think I've ever used a mouse with prediction, so I don't really know.

7. Extra Information:

I like wired mice; I will not use a wireless one (I ignore the Mamba's wireless functionality).

I've looked into the DeathAdder, but got lured away by the Mamba.

I've also looked into the Mionix Naos series, but I've heard some really bad things about its firmware and support.

Mousepad:

1. Hard or cloth?

Ah, I've only ever used cloth mousepads before, so I can't say either way.

I'm not opposed to trying something new.

2. Rough or smooth?

Smooth, I guess.

3. Which size approximately?

Just a regular-sized mousepad would be great.

4. What's your maximum budget?

$50 for a mousepad, but that's an extremely high cap.

Thanks for reading!

You're gonna get lots of opinions.. and that's all they will be - opinions.
However, it caught my attention that you said you prefer large, right handed mice with palm grip. That's my grip - and in my years of playing, I've never had a more comfortable mouse than the old trustworthy MSIE3.0, so I'd recommend something that closely resembles it. I have a Zowie Ec1 at work (deathadder clone), and it's also pretty comfortable.

Deathadder is probably your best bet

people say black edition is better because of better grip but you'll probably be fine with a regular one as well

I dont know how you could choose a Mamba over the deathadder

I've got both Mamba (2011) and the death adder black edition. (and a zowie Am/ SS kana / g9x / ms1.1A / v3 / SS sensei)

The sensor is rubbish on the mamba and deathadder is pretty much flawless in all aspects.

Having said that you could have a look into the new mouse released by zowie that uses the same sensor as the zowie AM/GS

it would cost around 90$ depending on where you live (shipped)

The mousepad i would recommend would be the artisian shiden kai (actually the smoothest mousepad ever, in comparison to razer goliath speed / qck / S&S / artisian hiyate) and well worth the price.

the total of both would be around 130-140 (zowie + artisian) or like 90-100 (deathadder and artisian)

Yes people are most likely going to recommend the mouse and mouse pad they personally own. So our suggestions are just going to be a waste of time.

I suggest you get the Zowie AM and SteelSeries NP+

laughingsmiley.gif yes i own them
