GPU recommendation - crossfire or SLI? $300 budget.

Hi All. Below is the new rig I'm building. I found out that I can go either SLI or Crossfire with the mobo but it kind of looks like the specs are a bit different. Honestly, I don't understand them and am still learning about cpu's. I'm not a total noob but OCN always makes me feel like one biggrin.gif

I'm a bit partial to AMD, but if Nvidia currently has some great deal...I'm all for it. So here is the specs and also the blurb about the mobo being able to do either SLI or Crossfire.

What would you guys pick? What is the best bang for the buck around $300 right now gpu wise? I only need one now, but may crossfire or SLI in the future.

Blurb about GPU in Specs:With three PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots, five SATA-600 ports, and six USB 3.0 ports, the ASRock X79 Extreme6 pushes your entire system performance beyond the limit. NVIDIA 3-Way SLI and AMD 3-Way CrossFireX capabilities (running at two x16 or three x8 bandwidth)

If you have a gpu budget of 300 i think just going with the best single gpu you can afford is probably the best road to go down. Does that answer you're question?

If you grab a 7870 now, you can always crossfire them down the line, but if you do want crossfired cards right now then grab two 6870s IMO. Not sure of the USD pricing but you can obtain 2 of these cards in UK for less than £300.

Question: What are you using the rig for? If it's only for gaming, I would recommend going the 1155 route rather than 2011, the extra money spent going to 2011 isn't really beneficial for gaming and is money better put towards a more powerful gpu. An i5 3570k and an ASRock extreme 4 would be better suited for you IF gaming is your main priority.

He's not.
