This is ballistic missile , Rage = 5000-6000 KMs (depends on how much nuclear material in it ) . Only 6 countries have it and only 3 + India have it with some special technology with is like that iron man movie , When it gets high into space 6 different missile comes out from it and 6 different targets can be destroyed with very much accuracy.

It's called MIRV. It's also there in Agni-IV. Dr.Saraswat mentioned that the MIRVs will be tested in the next 3 scheduled pre-induction trials.

A big congratulations all the scientists and staffs of DRDO who made this test successful.

This is an important year for the defense establishment (and for defense nuts!). The Akula-2 class SSN, INS Chakra has been inducted into the navy few weeks back and now this missile test has been completed. Our first SSBN, INS Arihant is going to start sea-trials around middle of the year. The refurbished Russian AC, Admiral Gorshkov, rechristened INS Vikramaditya, will be inducted in December or so. Then there is the ongoing deployment of Stage-I of ABM system for the metro cities and important locations. The exo-atmospheric interceptor missile, which will form the Stage-2 of the ABM system, will be test-fired near the end of the year.
Hopefully, all of these trials/inductions will be as successful as the Agni-V trial

I personally don't have a single problem with this. Even if it it meant to be used as a ballistic missile. If I may stereotype for a moment, Indians are probably the most level headed non aggressive people in that region. India's one of the fastest growing country's, which I don't think alot of people realize do to China's boom shadowing that region. Alot of people still view India like some of the war torn parts of Afghanistan.

This. Part of this anime was talking about how things are overshadowed like India's larger population as opposed to China's smaller one.

If they didn't waste money on such useless stuff India would not have been "still" looked at as a poor country, This is just a show-off project, its nothing new. It'd have been alright if the money at least went into making something useful.

^^adizz correct bro but ur statement is irrelevant coz theres different budget for different necessities of a country..and its known fact that indian politicians are too damn corrupt...but the defence ministry ain't that corrupt hence they use their funding properly to churn out some usefull stuff for defence.....

if our government and state level politicians also start using the funds properly and judiciously then still we won't be called poor...india's gdp is one of the highest in the world and yet most of the population is still poor..guess why.....

anyways im happy to hear this news at least some guys are not misusing the funding they r getting biggrin.gif

Lol. Poverty, who gives a hoot as long as they have rockets.

Srsly though, the title in the main article makes people think Beijing is in Europe ;-)

I find myself worrying for the future. India's population is already massive, and it's continuing to explode. 1.2 billion people, 368.3 per square kilometer. Compare that to the US at 33.7/km2, or somalia at 16.12/km2, or the UK at 255.6/km2, or china at 139.6/km2.

Sure it's fine for a (relatively) peaceful and democratic country to develop missiles and nukes because they arn't going to go crazy like north korea might and use them. However what about the future when india has doubled it's population and they have even more jobless starving young people. Can the country feed itself right now? Or does it have to import food? The world can easily produce enough food to feed these increases but can they afford the food? Or will they be spending their money to develop ballistic missiles instead of on food?

I dunno. Maby I'm being pessimistic, but I'd feel a lot better about the situation if india had some sort of handle on it's exploding population.

Although we should put this into perspective. India spends 2.3% of it's gdp on it's armed forces (I assume that includes stuff like ballistic missiles) compared to the united states at 4.9%, or australia at 1.8% or the UK at 2.7%. So it's not like they're doing massive military spending. And they do need to arm up for the future confrontations with china just to have the leverage to not be taken advantage of.

1.2 billion is a very conservative estimate. I would put it closer to 1.5 or 1.6

Remember China's estimate is 1.6 and they even say it could be anywhere from 1.3 to 2.1 billion. This planet isn't as overpopulated as people think. We can grow food in the ocean too but people seem to keep forgetting that.

Just nit-picking here, but India is more than 5000KM away from Europe.
