Hmm if it's really well optimized and the price is right. I might get one of these instead of a 680. We'll see.

4GB on a dual GPU card is 2GB usable. Just an FYI.

Not, it's because TSMC can't produce enough wafers for nVidia, not to mention there was a full production stop a month ago or so. And obviously nVidia would use most dies for 680 where the profit margin is significantly higher.

They are probably have some stock of highly binned chips to use in a dual-gpu solution.

It could be that Nvidia knows more about their supply chain than any of us do. They could very well have a large incoming supply of chips that have not been delivered to market yet. I'm not saying I expect the launch of this card to have huge availability, but I don't think that we have the qualifications to say that they have no supply, or that this move makes no sense.

I disagree. Your volume is at the 680 price point. Not everyone can shell out $499 dollars for a 680 but even less will be able to afford a 690. Also, I am not a fan of dual GPU solutions.

There are plenty of people, myself included, who want a 680 but can not find one to purchase. I don't have time to find out when newegg gets their shipments and spam F5 all day. With the way tech and specifically graphics card change in the industry, if I have to wait too long then I will just hold out for the next gen which could see my dollars going to AMD... who knows.

We do not have to be "in the know". We can tell by precedent. There aren't any 680's available. Nvidia is like any other manufacturer. When product arrives they produce and ship to there distributors. They do not hoard product and then suddenly open the flood gates.

I am sure their distributors are hounding Nvidia daily asking about there next batch orders. Every day that Nvidia can't deliver it equates to potential lost revenue down stream.

I really hope its not a let down like the 590 was.

The GTX 590 was only a "let down" because it "couldn't overclock well".

When in fact, the ones that popped were user-induced. You can't blame a card for being bad if you push too many volts through it... >.> That's like adding a turbo to a car that you have NO knowledge of and saying it's a crap car after you blow it up... because the other car could handle it... That makes sense right?

If you think about it... the 9800GX2 never overclocked that well on average, nor did the GTX 295. So the 590 not pushing very well wasn't anything new... thumb.gif

Though we do all have high hopes for the GTX 690, please don't flip out if it's not the next holy grail of GPUs. rolleyes.gif
