I have good vision, but I still have to stand a long ways away from my monitor before I'm too far away to notice jaggies. To really max out my eyes I would need a monitor somewhere between 350 and 400 DPI (viewing from 3 feet away). A 300 DPI desktop monitor should still be beneficial for normal people. That said, no-one's talking about 300 DPI desktop hardware yet, so my plan is to go triple monitor and sit six feet away instead of three.
Yes, I will probably need to run top of the line cards in SLI for the rest of my life, but I'm ok with that.
EDIT: +1 on being excited for the LED displays as well.
Are you trolling? Ideal viewing distance for a 27" screen would be about 32". At that distance you do not need even close to the theoretical ideal-case 300dpi that people can discern (keep in mind that 300dpi assumes absolutely perfect vision and viewing distance of 18"). It sounds have never even seen a high DPI screen.

I would love to sit you down in front of a 2560x1440 27" screen and see how many pixels you can discern rolleyes.gif

It just so happens that a buddy of mine has his just ten feet from me right now. I'll see if I can borrow it for a minute and do my jaggie test.

OK! I have to stand 101 inches away before the jaggies blur together.

This man must have eagle eyes.

With my 24" 1920x1200 (worse DPI?) I need around 12' for:

300

to look smooth.

edit: math fail.

It's been awhile since we've seen a good increase in resolution. I like where this is going. However, what I would really like is to see more affordable 1440P displays in the $150-$200 range before upgrading to this.

guys!i hope you plan to use those in your house and never connect to the web.the stuff you mention is all fine and dandy ,but you seem to forget that you can only go has fast as the weakest link!in this case ?the web!check the fastest web is probably from shaw in canada!or google in usa not sure here but they are close ,last i checked shaw service was active google is still plugging thing up to start 1 gb/s this ends up being 120 mb or so per second. NOTHING at your end is likelly to oom(ok maybe the screen lol),but the web?now this is interesting cause the vast majority of tv dont go to 1080p!they stop at 1080i.they dont play video game they just do movie stuff!the trouble is bandwith of the web!i havent even started talking about bufferbloat here, wich is a huge issue that even those that made the web ,way before everybody ever saw this come out of university, havent have a lot of end game solution.they are just scratching the surface of bufferbloat and everytime they find a way to test further down the pipe (cause they literally have to invent those as they go,since this is very hard to test.)the more they find internet affected by bufferbloat!and guess what?the internet provider arent exactly cooperating ,why would they ?they would basicly shoot themsleves in the foot,if i was cable company i would suffer from selective heilzeimer for a long while and lobby for statucuo so that the internet cant compete when movie like the hobbit come out (4 or 5k res IN 3D,48 HERTZ INSTEAD OF 24 HERTZ)!instead: like i said, i wish they would just fix the inconsistancy ,this way you want this ,press that, want this press this ,no more 64 thousand place and 64 thousand stuff to watch out that could burn your tv or screen

I'm fine with my 1050 monitor for now. Would be nice for photo editing however.
