Thread Starter
Anyone who want to share their BIOS setting on this combo? 3970k & Sabertooth X79?

Just to have something to start off with.

Aiming for 4.7Ghz.

I have a sabertooth x79 and a 3930k at 4.7ghz, took this pictures for another thread but you might find it useful, I'm using offset voltage though.

You should not use anyone else's settings for overclocking because the capabilities of your motherboard/RAM/CPU may be vastly different despite all being the same model and specification.

The best way would be to read a general overclocking guide for X79 (there is one on this site and another good one on the ROG website) and try first aim for a lower overclock (~4.3) to get a gauge for what kind of voltages your CPU needs to maintain stability at lower clocks before ramping up and pushing it. It saves a lot of headaches later because you will know which settings need to be tweaked to what amount.

The OP said he was just looking for something to start off with. There is nothing wrong with using settings that worked for someone else, odds are it will work for him too and if not it will only take a little adjusting after that as long as the cooling is adequate. I recently built 3 computers for someone all with the same hardware and actually ended up with all 3 i5 2500k @ 4.5ghz with the same settings. You never know til you try.

+1, I think it helps to see what others have done. Certainly saves alot of time in some cases.

You still need to see it as a starting point, lower voltages where possible and raise them if needed etc.

what voltage is that at?

i got a "bad" chip when it comes to o/c ability. my chip needs 1.496 to be stable at 4.8ghz this is by far one of the highest i have seen at this clock.

my temps sit around 80-82 in prime.

im 4 hours into converting video right now and the highest temp recorded was 76* mainly sitting around 70-72 prime 95 is totally unrealistic when it comes to load and temps.

imo i don't use prime or Intel burn test for stability. video conversion while multitasking and gaming is the best test honestly.

CPU-Z says 1.32v ( using offset mode in BIOS)., i'm actually using the same settings as the guy over here, just to see how it works out, and its now been prime95 stable for 2 1/2 hour.. C-2 stepping

Think im gonna prime for 6 hours, and then test some BF3..

That's the highest temps I get on p95 as well, you should be fine seeing that gaming will leave your cores at 60C.
Glad the settings worked for you, it's considerably less voltage than most people are getting with a fixed vcore and it will throttle down to 0.848v while idling.
After you are done with p95, make sure your computer won't BSOD 124, while idling. It shouldn't, but leave it on for a day or two just to be sure.

I got a "bad" chip too. I'm running almost the same bios settings and I'm maxed out at 4.4GHz with the same exact v-offset which comes out to be 1.34v vcore. Its nice to see some good ones out there!
