My V6 over my new/used P4

Thread Starter
I bought this chip from RYGUY (a P4 2.8c) and figured why not lap it, only $45 invested. I was a bit concerned that I might be giving something up though because I probably wouldn't Get that high clock speed I was getting with my Celeron D. Well after playing a round of COD2 even at stock speed I could see it was kicking the Celly's azz. I have it running at 3.22 with a VCore of 1.65 Idles at 28c and loads at 33.5c. Quite a difference from the hot Prescott Celly.

Nice! For some reason I don't think water bashers will try to claim that air can give a T-Delta like you're rocking there. 5.5C range...that's sexy.

Glad to see it's working out for you! It was a good idea to lap it too, the surface looked nasty.

Yeah the thing is, I stopped at the mail box on my way to work and the chip was there so I took it to work with me and with all the scopes we have at there I decided to take a look at the chip real good. After looking at the surface of the IHS it made me wonder why we even bother to lap our heatsinks down as far as we do. Needless to say with everything there I needed and some free lunch time, I did a quick lap job. I was surprised to find that it was very hollow in the center. Now I am going crazy wanting to lap the old Celly to see how much improvement it really can make since I have all the data on how hot it ran. The surface on it looks no better than the P4.

I must ask, where can i purchase one of these "stinger" water blocks? I have googled to try and find the source of them, and have no luck.
