Hopefully Trinity/Piledriver and the Microsoft Xbox contracts put some much needed cash in AMD's pockets. If they can begin to capture the laptop market from Intel, they should be able to be a bit more competitive.

But ATI is the only portion that's actually bearing fruit, and their fusion APU's are their only glimmer of hope right now. That Trinity/Xbox contract is only possible because of their ATI acquisition.

IMO, R&D has nothing to do with it. By the time AMD acquired ATI the disastrous Phenom I was near completion. No amount of R&D can overcome a lack of leadership. Hell with poor leadership they'll just focus the research on the wrong things LOL...

How long can this go for ?

Errr.
If AMD truly has the contracts for not only WiiU, (best selling console of the last gen), but also for PS3/720, I don't see them feeling much pain.
Also, if Intel has nothing down the pipe to best Trinity, they lose a goody share of the mobile market.

Actually a decent quarter considering the acquisition of Sea Micro and a $800 million write off to buy out of exclusive production from GloFo. Without the buy-out they made $200+ million which ain't great but with a major ongoing reorganization $200 million profit per quarter ain't bad at all for the #2 guy especially considering the uneven playing field that has existed for the past 35 years. I will be purchasing a Trinity powered laptop to help AMD sales.

I disagree. Buying ATI is probably one of the best decision AMD has ever made. The merger has allowed the birth of APU and greatly expanded AMD's portfolios.

I'm still kicking myself for not buying shares at $6.80 last month. I could have turned a heavy profit in a month frown.gif

Yep.

Also, this isn't really an ouch. They would have made a good chunk of change had they not severed their exclusivity with GloFo, which was definitely a smart move.
