Summer Temps are they ok? and voltage? - Page 2

I see a lot of people stable for 4.6 at < 1.30 vcore on 2500k/2600k. I've got a 2600k at 4.6/1.30 myself and it's at 22C idle and tops out at about 62 on prime95 with a $30 CoolerMaster cpu cooler. If you're looking to cool it off I'd start dropping that vcore down as far as you can first. It's not only free, but it'll even save you money on your power bill! Offset mode for greener living. If that doesn't fix it, invest in a better cpu cooler and/or case fans. It's a lot cheaper than having to replace parts that didn't live long enough due to too much heat.

1.3 vcore?!?!?! Under 1.3 vcore?!?!? No way...

I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic or if you're just a little loony.

@Atheus, I'm curious to how you managed to get idle 22C and 62C on load with a stock cooler, when pretty much anyone I've ever seen with water cooling never get under 62C at 4.4Ghz and up...

For starters it's not a stock cooler. It's a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Water cooling isn't all that amazing to begin with, from what I've seen.

Part of the equation is that this computer is in my basement where the ambient temperature is about 17-18C, but the other part is probably that I'm using offset voltage, so whenever the cpu is idle it's only running at about 0.95 vcore. It's not uncommon for me to see core #1 dip down to 18C. When I was pumping 1.30 continuously it would idle around 30C. I'll also say that 62C isn't the hottest reading I've ever gotten. I think the hottest reading was up around 67, but watching the core temps while running prime95 for any extended period I can see that they're sitting ~59-63C ~98% of the time.

For the moment I've got my cpu fan configured to run at about 20-75% speed and I don't feel like screwing with it otherwise I'd do a screen shot for ya, but I don't think these results are all that uncommon based on the rigs I have seen in the Maximus IV Gene-Z owner's club where i usually hang out - especially for those who have plopped a Noctua NH-14 (or similar) cooler on there.

Edit: I decided to pop on prime95 for a few minutes to see how it goes with the lower fan speeds.

a little bit loony and jealous of the vcore ^_^

Cheers. Love the avatar btw. Makes me want to call my lawyer and leave a message confessing a laundry list of heinous crimes.

By the way I think if my ambient were 90F as the OP stated I'd be idling at ~35C and Prime95ing at ~75C. I think he's got a stronger CPU cooler mounted, though, so if he can drop the vcore a bit (and if his mobo supports offset vcore) he might be able to do a little better than those numbers.
