FiOS and DSL same speed?!?

Thread Starter
I am looking at offers for ONLY the internet, no tv nor phone. There is an offer for Fios 15mbps and same deal but it says DSL again 15mbps.

The fios is $55 a month and DSL $15 a month. Is there a difference? Everything is the same, except it is a fios router, but same speeds!!
IS there a difference between dsl 15 and fios 15mbps?

In theoretical speed there wouldn't be any difference - in actual speed? I don't see you getting anywhere near 15mb/s via DSL vs. being actually able to hit that speed with Fios [though probably not enough to make a $40 difference in price] - I'd say go with DSL as that is quite a dramatic difference in price for the same theoretical speeds.

AT&T has a reputation for overhyping and underperforming. Verizon actually delivers on their claims.

I have a feeling that FiOS may actually be the better route on this one. If money is a genuine concern, though, stick with DSL.

$15/mo would lead me to believe it's actually a 1.5 mbit plan.

Did the installers install an ONT ( A box with coax running out of it in your house? if it isn't coax, is it ethernet?
Also, are you directly connected to the router? Might have a slight difference with wireless

I have 15mbs cable coming form 15mbs verizon fios. I used to get 20mbs/11mbs on fios now im getting 5mbs/1mbs on cable. Hope this helps. I switched because verizon was getting to be to expensive and I didnt need to download large files all that much. So over all im fine with the much slower net.

Yeah man Verizon is balls expensive, and if you get JUST internet or JUST phone, it get's up to ludicrous prices.

I checked comcast xfinity and verizon, but all are super expensive.

I am looking for internet and phone, phone (home landline) for unlimited nationwide, and internet at least 12mpbs download and 2 upload. Any good services? I found verizon 15/5 internet and it is $85 a month

i have wideband cable its 50/15
dsl is probably 1.5
fios plans start at 10
so dsl is fine for one persons needs, even for gaming... dsl usually has better latency than cable or fios even though it doesnt have a high bandwidth.
