FiOS and DSL same speed?!? - Page 2

What??

DSL my latency was 50-75ms at is lowest ever.

Cable has been as low as 15ms.

FiOS should be able to match and or beat cable.

DSL runs on copper, Cable is usually fiber to the node, and fiber should be fiber to the house. There is no way DSL would beat fiber for latency, unless you have terrible equipment.

15mbps dsl, as far as I know, doesn't exist. certainly not for 15 a month. It's 1.5

The real difference is upload speeds and consistency. FIOS gets me a rock solid 0ms jitter 16 up 2.3 down (I pay for 15/2). DSL is likely to get you 300-600kbps upload with a latency that changes wildly throughout the day based on you're neighborhood's usage and even the state of the weather (assuming above ground infrastructure).

Maybe if you 're connecting to a server hosted by your next door neighbor and comparing it to connecting to your uncle's mobile phone on the other side of the world.

I pay $99/mo for 50/15 from Comcast with TV. Works out well, cable kills my old AT&T DSL.

Oh wow, but I am more interested in internet AND phone, unless you are getting phone as well.

But that can get you ridiculous download speeds, but why THAT high might I ask?

IT comes down to

FIOS will be closer to the 15Mb
DSL will be "Upto" 15Mb's (which the fixed when they tested to allow it to pass though advertising standards probley ha)

im paying for "Up to 24Mbs" ADSL, i rarley get above 9, used to be On virgin 30Mb package and i got between 30-50Mb's

Id allways go fiber or cable (im in the UK though not sure about the US ISP situation smile.gif )

Oh yeah sorry, no one in the house uses phone. Technically we have it but we don't use it, we don't even have a phone plugged in. The only reason we got this high of speed is because it's a special for the first year, then the price goes up to $119.99/mo. We were previous Comcast customers and they wanted us back so they came back to us with the deal.
