What exactly is Arma style? Extremely slow-paced and strategic? Run-&-gun and reflex based? What?

military simulation. sorry battlefield players, bf3 is not the most realistic war game out there.

arma 2 is extremely slow paced compared to most war shooter games out there. the game takes a lot of planning and coordination before you do anything. the maps are huge and will usually take a while before you actually reach an objective with your squad if you don't get shot out of the sky. it is very easy to become incapacitated in the game. enemies are far away, spread out around the area and difficult to find.

Games are usually 3-4 hours long, and that's considered short.

You can spend hours just talking to places, die, and have to start over. It's a Civvie version of a military simulation program. It is a game...but at the same time, it's designed to be a simulator, not a full blown game as some might be accustomed to.

From what I've read so far, thank god it's not trying to be as realistic as Arma, otherwise most people would be asleep by the time they reached the objective. I already find BF3 both slow-paced AND camper-friendly (a very bad combination). Having to hold Shift + W for painfully long amounts of time to get anywhere and risking getting taken out by random campers/snipers (they've got all day to sit there and wait) isn't my idea of fun. But that's just my opinion, some people enjoy that kind of thing.

I can't help but feel that the developers are aiming this game at an extremely small and niche crowd, primarily consisting of lovers of previous Arma titles and/or people who enjoy watching paint dry. But I can respect the developers' intentions, they don't need CoD/BF3 fanboys kicking their door down demanding a better experience - it's actually good they're not following suite and keeping their game true for their loyal fans.

The visuals look amazing (as with any game these days), but Youtube 1080p footage of this game will give me more than enough of that biggrin.gif

Yes, this is a niche game. Nothing wrong with that.

DAMN SKIPPY!!

I played and beat every single player thing in ArmA II and loved every minute of it! It is very unforgiving. There is a lot of depth. Steep learning curve but once you get into it you are SO glad for it. You don't feel limited like you do in other FPS games. There is no right and wrong way to do things except getting killed is wrong. It isn't for everyone for sure. I did NOT LIKE IT at first. I'll admit that straight up. But I gave it some time and it just sucked me in with the campaign. No commander or "God Voice" was screaming at me to do this or that for the most part. It was on me to decide where to go and when.

I can't wait for this game to come out.

Yeah Arma 3 will be brilliant I think. Arma 2/OA is pretty intensive though, my old 4850 played it at basically the same frame rates at my GTX 570 so I'm guessing it's something to do with texture streaming and everything. May need to invest in a SSD.
