You don't need chipset waterblock on LGA1155 motherboard. Have you looked at Gigabyte Z77 UD5H? Biostar TZ77XE4 is also worth mentioning.

Well, need and WANT are 2 different things, lol.

The Gigabyte looks solid, was confused about the 2 different versions, but I don't need the WIFI/Bluetooth one, so seems like a good board for a great price.

Of course you can get a waterblock for Z77 chipset, you just won't get much benefit out of it. There is no north bridge or south bridge in Intel anymore, just a single chipset (PCH).

I had a PII 940 at 3.8 and now I'm at 5.0 with my 2500k and am very happy with it, will be nice to get my 7970 in next week. I wouldn't worry too much about hyper threading, its really not much more than a gimmick, pay $100 more for less than 10% improvement ? Games don't utilize it very much at all and unless your running multi threaded apps its really not warranted. Remember its still just a 4 core except HT is utilized by stuffing the pipe full from gaps in the programming. If your running a program with good coding then HT isn't very useful as the cores are already packed with info per clock. You can run two cards with a 2500k as well, its not going to gimp anything at all. Kinda funny buying a 2550k or 2700k when they are the same thing as the 2500k and 2600 except you pay more money for them to disable the gpu? Good thinking on Intels part really, disable features and sell for more money by putting a higher number on the sku.

To my understanding a Phenom II x4 clocked @ 4.0ghz is on par with a i3 2100.

I would get an Asus board..tbh for the 2500K ..no need for a new chipset.
P8p67 pro is solid and proven.
The 1st BIOS is the best ph34r-smiley.gif
1 more vote for 960T...It's more than twice as good as an fx4100
IMO..best chip AMD's made to date thumb.gif

Your understanding is wrong.If a 4+ Ghz 960T is faster than a stock 2500K..
It's a pretty sure bet it's faster than an i3 2100..can't say..cuz I've never had an i3 2100.
I've had...idk..a few 2500Ks whistle.gif

I dont want to say you NEED to switch right now but if you go intel and the budget affords it, go all out with a 2600k if your going to sli/cf high end cards. BUT ivy should be out monday or friday supposedly and we will know for sure what its capable of, early results show its not really worth it but who knows, its a mixed bag of unofficial leaks. I went from a 1100t at 4.2ghz, 8150 at 4.9ghz, to 2500k at 4.8ghz and for gaming they all play the same. Look at my 2011 rig vs 2012, everything is the same except mobo and cpu. With your current gpu amd wont hold you back, you can try getting a used 1090/1100t or 8120/50.

Regardless going intel look into asus motherboards, im fond of them too and they have an awesome bios, you will feel at home since its nearly the same as your sabertooth one. The matx ROG maximus gene-z lineup is nice bang for your buck with the ability to sli/cf and still fit into an matx case. If you want atx which might have better gpu spacing. You can even stick to a sabertooth one if you like. z77 is the newest chipset that will support ivy but so will z68 if you find a better deal on one asus already has the bios available for ivy support.
