AMD guy looking to switch to 2500K - Page 6

You don't necessarily need to go with a Z77 board. For example, my ASRock P67 board will support Ivy chips (with a BIOS update) as well as PCIe. 3.0.

That board I listed last page is perfect for you, Ivy support, USB 3.0, SATA 6, and PCIe 3.0 (with Ivy chips only). And don't lose sleep over Ivy, it's only 5-10% faster at best, probably even less (2-3%) in gaming marks. Go ahead and order a 2500 or 2600K if you want.

Well guys, I think I am gonna go with the ASRock Z77 Pro. Seems like a pretty sweet board, though i am not too familiar with the brand.

Don't worry about it. What ever you need you can ask it on the Intel motherboard forum. ASRock is a solid brand. thumb.gif

There are so many chipsets for Intel, can someone explain, or link to an explanation of the differences between them all, Z77, Z78, P67 X58, etc. *** Intel, what's the deal!?!

The only ones you should consider on a performance build would be z68, z77, or p67 (all socket 1155 which is SB) z68 and z77 will allow you to overclock AND use your cpu's internal gpu if you need, or that new software that will shut off the video card and switch to the internal gpu to save power, I have a z68 and dont use it though, Im not worried about the pennies it would save lol. p67 will allow overclocking but no cpu internal gpu. That wont matter, but if you are ever without a video card for rma or whatever it would suck. P67 was the chipset SB launched with that overclocked, then z68, then z77 for the performance line. Personally stay with z68 or z77, both will do ivy but since z77 is already out might as well get it. If I were in your boat though I would see how z77 does at overclocking SB cpu's just to make sure something isnt different and it lowers max oc potential somehow.
