Need guidance on watercooling from advanced watercoolers! First timer! xD

Thread Starter
Specs:
-Asus sabertooth 990fx mobo
-AMD 6100-fx cpu 3.6 ghz
-Corsair A70 cpu heatsink
-Radeon HD 6790
-Corsair GT Force 120gb SSD
-750gb HDD
-Corsair 800D (watercooler friendly)
-running on dual monitors, 23" and 19" monitors

It's been a year since my first build and my computer is still running smoothly, but the only problem is the noise level that the fans make so I decided to upgrade from air cooling to water cooling. This is going to be my first water cooling build. I understand the risks and I am willing to take it for silence and higher performance.

I've been doing research and found these:

I was thinking 3/8" tubing
I was looking around and found bitpower compression fittings to be what I wanted and a cylindrical reservoir tank to make my build look badass! But, I wasn't sure which waterpump to get that is reliable and worth the money.

I am looking to water cool my cpu first, then move on the GPU, then the mobo. Am I on the right track to getting this watercooling down?
I believe the water has to be coming straight from the radiator to the cpu first then back to the res. That's all I know! lols

I have NO IDEA what I am doing right now, haha. I am still learning from research. Can someone help me with my build?

I am going to get a better GPU and place a waterblock on it later, but now just the cpu. After I learn the basics, I can improvise from there.

Thanks for your time!
Steve.

Keep reading, up until now you're on the right track.

For noise concerns the docs here prescribe D5's (MCP655).

Where the water comes from doesn't really matter in regards to heat. The water equalizes after time with use. Just a small trick, keep it as short and tidy as possible (tubing). The only important component placing in wc'ing is is res > pump.

Hey,

It's great that you're water cooling. Since you said you don't know much, I'd advise doing a lot of research - there's plenty of information that's available! Yes, the amount of information can be a bit overwhelming for a first timer, but it really helps to familiarize yourself.

Now, since you said you're doing CPU only, I'd recommend this kit:

http://www.jab-tech.com/XSPC-Rasa-750-RX360-CPU-watercooling-kit-pr-4780.html

Tubing size doesn't matter. If you're going to go with compression fittings, just make sure that the tubing size and the compression fitting size are exactly the same. I'd also recommend buying some primochill tubing instead of using the ones that come with that kit; as they turn brown after a while.

Loop order doesn't matter for the most part. As long as the reservoir is above the pump, it's fine. The reason you want the res above the pump is because you don't want your pump ever running dry. Water has to be gravity fed into the pump. Now, since that res has a pump inside it, you don't have to worry about that. Just make sure your pump doesn't run dry when you're filling up your loop.

Good luck with your build! Just make sure to not get too addicted to water cooling wink.gif

My first and only build was a water-cooled rig, and I learned a lot from this forum. I lurked for several months reading about water-cooling, watching videos, and reading the stickies before I purchased anything. What help me the most was looking at all the build threads. I did my first build on a 800D also... and it is a great case to learn and build a watercooled rig. A lot of my ideas came from existing build threads. If you look at my build thread in my sig... you will see the same, or similar, things in other 800D build threads. I post in a lot of forums (non computer related), and this paticular forum on OCN have a lot of helpful people... so if you have any questions... there are lot of people that can help you out here. There is a lot of information here... and even if I was successful in my watercooled rig... I still feel like I don't know what I'm doing when I read the posts in this forum... LOL...

Thanks you guys so much! thumb.gif

My 800D case is very roomy so I have plenty of space to place them. I'm most likely going to get the M5 mpc655 pump, RX360 radiator, a cylindrical res and compression fittings(i want to make sure that the tubes wont leak) in the end, but I will stick with a kit for now and get used to watercooling.

Can you guys tell me the best places I can get these items online? The link that you gave me, Andom, is out of stock frown.gif

You could always get the Raystorm kit with MCP655 pump, RX360 radiator, and compression fittings then add a cylindrical res. thumb.gif

Most popular 2 sites are probably:
http://www.frozencpu.com/

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php

Just make sure you have time when installing your loop, it's a long process. I just rebuilt mine today (new fans, redid the tubing, etc).

Since you live in the U.S., I would recommend that you check at Jab-Tech and Sidewinders first. Jab-Tech has the lowest prices (facebook=5% off), followed by Sidewinders (I think). They also have the lowest shipping from what I've seen.

I am in the process of building my first WC PC as well. With that said, my method is adding a fill port at the highest point in the loop to the top of the case and a drain to the lowest point and out the bottom. Just move PC over the sink. Remove the drain port. Remove the fill port. System should be empty in seconds. Also, I bought a funnel to G1/4 fitting for filling to eliminate any chance of spills.

As per splashing, with my setup, the worth that can happen is I may get a few drops on the outside bottom of the case. This is out of the way of any electronics, so wipe off and time to clean/refill.
