No, all joking aside... I hear all you guy's.. Thank's for the concern... thumb.gif My first board , just like this one. A GIGABYTE GA-MA785G-UD3H...( as the same one I'm using now)
I had problems with it and I couldn't get it RMA'ed... rolleyes.gif Oh well!! Well, at that time this was what I could afford to buy.. But anyway. Before I ordered another mobo. I
had taken the bad one to work with me one day and had one of our circuit technicians look at it. He, him-self was a 'Brother O.C'er' thumbsupsmiley.png He checked on the circuits, MOSFETs, chokes, Ect. on this board. They were of good quality..
He told me the PWM signal to control the VRMs is digitally modulated. ( As Advertised) Meaning they can handle more power, "BUT" They will shut down if they get over volt-ed to high. Also if the coil inside them hold and get to hot, they can also pop devil.gif .. Some about 'Megohms' and the signal should be greater then one to four or something like that between the PSU and the mobo... rolleyes.gif I feel certain you guys are correct about my shut-downs. ( which I never stated but you guys guess it) Well, that's my guess. I just felt I could have controlled it better if I had more in-between increment settings in the voltage setting's... Don't know man, rolleyes.gif I'm really not that technical at all... tongue.gif Anyway. I'm safe so far... But I hear you. thumb.gif Anything at Anytime could go wrong when it comes to circuity!!! Believe me, I've seen these things pop.. It's Bright!!! cool.gif I've been an Elevator repair man for, (going on) 22 years now and I seen a lot of Thing's when it comes to electrical... You should see a ( well, what we call a 'Tower Capacitor') in the business; 'Blow'!!! devil.gif You think a Bomb went off. And if your even next to one. (if you don't get hurt first) It will be like a Bomb did go off!!!!!!!!!! mellowsmiley.gif I should be doing this experiment with a better board and I have one coming but I wanted to push this one; one last time before it gets Retired into my wife's PC... This series of motherboards gigabyte produced really weren't half bad!!! thumb.gif Anyway bud, Thanks for the concern!!! Your a good man! thumb.gif

Good job on the cooling Rogue! thumb.gif

I fully understand what it is like when a large capacitor blows as well! I use to work for a car audio company that created competition audio systems to compete in SPL series and I once had a stinger 12 farad capacitor explode in the back of a customers car whilst I was still in it! The damage was horrific..blew out back 3 windows of the Audi A4 estate, annihilated the custom speaker box that took me 3 weeks to make, and destroyed the latches on the back seats from the pressure. Worst part was my head was in there...a mere 20 seconds before detonation!! I was so lucky that I went to sit in the drivers seat to fiddle with the head unit.

Anyway I had a similar board to you a little while ago and I got round the heat sink problem by purchasing a small piece of copper pipe and some thermal pads and simply sticking it on to the VRMs tongue.gif worked a treat and allowed me to get my unlocked Athlon II x3 450 (unlocks to Phenom II x4 b50) to 4ghz stable which was impossible to do before the mod. thumb.gif

Hey, Hey darkstar585!!! Thanks for stopping over brother... Now If I had that work-bench you've built!!! That would have been perfect for this experiment.... specool.gif Yeah man, when those thing's go BOOM!! Look out!!! LOL lachen.gif A motherboard blowing caps is like pop corn being popped in pot on the fire with the lid off.. applaud.gif A few shinny Sparks . I mean don't misunderstand me. I sure wouldn't crank up my voltage and boot up my RIG with one of my hands sitting over the GPU, in front of the Phase controllers.... cool.gif Dude, I'm a little bit crazy... But I'm Not Stupid!!! wackosmiley.gif
You know what; that's a great idea... thumbsupsmiley.png Dude, your the best!!! Waahooo wheee.gif Yeah, why not get ( a small piece of copper pipe and some thermal pads and simply sticking it on to the VRMs).. Man, darkstar thanks for giving me a buttkick.gif and waking me up... Man Big Rep+ brother!!! thumb.gif

I'm just editing this post. I don't want too double up here.
Well, darkstar.. I did a little mod on my VRM's... I basically did what you said you did except I found an old, but small heatsink for a little 60m fan. So I cut it in half and put thermal double-sided tape on both pieces and placed them across the tops of the VRM's.... One of them are not covered by the heatsinks. Then strapped a 80mm fan in there!!!
Anyway, here are some shots of my little mod.. Hopefully cooling them off a little might just get me up a little bit more in my clock's on the next test. I'm sure it won't be much of a increase. I'm going to test it in normal condition's and see how far I can take it that way!!!!

Hey Bud!!! Thank's for the Rep+... Well, when my man 'darkstar' posted and stated he put a piece of copper tubing on his VRM's of his mobo. He stated he was getting a better reaction out his games because of cooling his VRM's off... biggrin.gifrolleyes.gif Well, that got me thinking that If I did, I mean if I can keep them a little more cool. I might just get a little bit of a higher overclock!!! thumb.gif I mean either way they will shut the board down electronically if they get to hot....... I figured why not give it a try... I'm doing one last push on this board this coming week-end with my RAD on 'ICE' to see if I can get it a little higher O.C. from my system... thumbsupsmiley.png

Yeah! that would rock!!
Try using Artic Silver alumina to paste some ramsinks or copper pipe or something to the vrm's and attach a fan close to them.
Let us know how that goes... biggrin.gif

I'm going to test it in normal condition's and see how far I can take it that way!!!!

good job on the heatsinks Rouge thumb.gif looks like they would have a good amount of surface area so should dissipate heat nicely biggrin.gif

Looking forward to hearing the results of the next overclock session, I hope your going for devil.gif 5Ghz devil.gif
